Great post, I remember those days really well. We were a force to be reckoned with even in the early 90s. That was why the relegation season was such a shock. Please if you can, look at the tables during the 80s and early 90s before we got relegated, we always ended up in the top 10, and Wembley was our second home. I want those days back :-|

Clough Junior still blames Forest for the way his father leaving the club was handled, specifically Maurice Rowarth announcing his resignation to the press before Clough Snr had decided he was definitely going. The Clough family felt for a long time after that the club had let his father down.
Some people that have posted on this thread need reminding that Brian had also managed Derby to the League title before he ever joined us.
Derby's current success is due to the work Nigel did in building a squad and making the club work financially, they were fools to let him go. McClaren walked into a club that were geared for success due to Nigel's work. I have no doubt he will make a similar success at Sheff Utd, to some extent he really turned them around as soon as he arrived there. They looked to be heading for relegation then pretty soon were almost in the playoffs.
He will never manage us. He feels we let his father down.

Billy Davies had a grudge against Derby, and nobody holds grudges better, and beating them with Forest was a great way of pissing them off. Nigel Clough had been overlooked for the Forest job, some Forest fans were calling him NLN, beating Forest with Derby was a great way of pissing them off. So they collided.

It's merely Derby propagander generated a few years ago to try and lay claim on the Cloughs.
Sad really as he (Brian) was only there 5 minutes, but Derby is rather bland.

Another autobiography about a broken person whining endlessly about how his daddy never loved him enough and how he spent his adult life trying to impress him? no thanks. At least Stuart Pearce understands the psychology of him being told he wasn't good enough.
As to Nigel Clough as manager of Forest, I'm not against it for all the Derby reasons. I just don't think he's the right man for the job. He went through a LOT of players at Derby, and actually spent a lot of money, despite the whole 'non-league' moniker. His handling of the Tomasz Cywka poor performances was atrocious, and not a way to encourage better displays, or attract players from other countries; borderline racism for a start.

I hope the original source for this rumour actually mentioned Nigel Clough and not just "an ex-Derby manager". I noticed Paul Jewell has left his role as assistant manager at West Brom, after only 1 game (he says sacked, West Brom say mutual consent). Let's be honest, it's the sort of appointment we'd make :facepalm:

There is literally no one here left to be accountable for what happened. I won't discount the fact that he build a decent squad capable of better things at Derby, but he underachieved with that squad that he built. At Sheff U they can beat anyone in the Cup but aren't consistent in the League and their League placing reflects that.
