Re: Nigel Clough

That is what that reminded me of. He was so well behaved as a player but he had a nasty streak that he saved for one or two that he felt truly deserved it. As if morally it was the correct thing to do to twat Paul Stewart.

Re: Nigel Clough

On my pessimistic days, I feel that Forest wont get anyway until we done a checklist of stuff: former player-heros as mangers, Nige as manager - distinct from player-hero because of Clough blood - and so on.

Only then will we be abe to move Forward,

Re: Nigel Clough

The speculation is as unwelcome as the proposition. He did and said way too much when he was at Derby.

It would have been wrong not too :)

He got a standing ovation as he left

His crap about giving all his medals/goals whatever back to beat them lot today.
I've let the anger and the exact memory go now, just think he's a bit of a twat who should remember who made him what he was, apart from his old man of course!

We dont know what when on in that final Brian Clough season to piss him off. We do know his retirement was leaked to make sure he was going. Nigel didnt hang about.

Nigel Clough's autobiography is one I would like to read.

Re: Nigel Clough

Positive comments in 2008 in the introduction to Neil Webb's book, I noticed earlier today coincidentally:

http://http://www.nottinghampost.com/Forest-star-recalls-Wembley-years/story-12263118-detail/story.html
In the introduction Nigel Clough recalls: "We never put out a weakened team in those days right from the early rounds of any cup competition.

"We didn't do squad rotation, but then again we didn't have that many players to rotate.

"People today look at Aston Villa or Everton doing well to finish sixth, but we weren't ever out of the top half for years.

"We would regularly score four or five and sometimes six or seven goals.

"We'd go and win at Old Trafford and Highbury. Liverpool used to hate coming to us because they just couldn't beat us.

"I feel sorry for the younger generation who have to hear about it from dads and uncles, but from every year you can pick out games which have special memories, not just the big cup matches.

"The supporters were thinking we'll be watching this for the next 40 years."

Yeah, I know.
It was completely classless though, not that arsed now he's at the club made for him, f*** him!

Something that has always rather surprised me about him as a manager. There's a lot of that about him.

It's another one of them though isn't it. Comes in our greatest managers son, there's already enough pressure to emulate something as unrealistic as it is and then the affiliation as a player too.

Probably a disaster in the making. I also find it highly doubtful.

Re: Nigel Clough

He scored something like 130 goals for their most hated opponents. Made his name at Forest and enjoyed all the best moments in his career playing for Forest. What can you say to convince the Derby fans you want to win as much as they do? Just playing to the crowd. Doesn't mean anything.

Besides, without those goals and trophies it is debatable whether he'd be in a position to have been offered the Derby job in the first place. He knows altering the course of time wouldn't have achieved his objective. Unless his objective was just to gee up some sheepshaggers.

He did come back and play for us again though. And it seems fairly likely he has expressed an interest in the Forest job at least once. He must have put that behind him to a point.

Twice I believe.
He's not really all that as a manager anyway, very well funded at Burton and finally got promoted after 10 years followed by an ordinary job at Derby albeit with financial restrictions and stuck in league 1 with a decent cup record at Sheff Utd.
Not worth winding me up over. :)

He scored at Leicester in 1997. That was a beautiful nostalgia goal if ever I've enjoyed one.

From where we are now I'd take NC as head coach and SP as DoF. But I can't see it happening.

Or the last manager (more or less) to take a part time team into the Football League after taking over in the Southern League Premier. The same part-timers he managed to a 0-0 draw against a Man United in the Ferguson erathat included Ronaldo, Solsjkaer, Rooney, Howard, Silvestre, Saha.

Re: Nigel Clough

They are both Managers now. There is nothing to suggest either want to be a Director of Football than people keep saying they'd like Pearce to be. And neither would want to be the other's assistant.

In Pearce's autobiography he says the first thing he'd do in management is get Nigel Clough working with him, but that horse has bolted. I suppose the only way you could ever see the two of them together is if one of them gets sacked and drifts out of management and the other invites the other on to their team.
