I agree. I think the £11m + £4m add ons we have supposedly bid is quite a fair offer really. I don't think we should go much higher than that. £20m is insane and if that is what they are looking for then we should move on to another target.

I agree and it no doubt has a sell-on fee as well so they can profit from our work later on.

When you consider a top player like Owen Wijndal has a release clause of 8.5m, I agree that 20m is crazy money.

His true value is probably around 5-6m, with a premium for his potential. Low teens seems fair and I don’t think they’d get much more than that from anyone else.

Played there for Wales, but usually plays RWB for Fulham I believe.

I don't think we should sign Williams to play LWB based on him playing the odd game there for Wales once in a blue moon.

I doubt we'll sign both Spence and Williams anyway. It'll be one or the other, or (more likely IMO) neither.
Thats fair just need a quality LWB as well, its so so important our full back positions.

Williams won’t be signed to play left back. It’s him or Spence not both.

20M for someone who’s played about 30 senior games.

It’s f***ing pathetic how the ‘top 6’ can rip the lesser teams off, meanwhile the smaller teams sell cheaply to the bigger teams.

Liverpool signed that lad from Aberdeen for what 5/6m, he will probably never play and in 2 years be sold for 30M to Crystal Palace.
Does that go for us then with Brennan?

Ok he's played a few more more games but half at League 1 Level, he hasnt proven anything yet and we wanted over 20m after 3 months of really good championship football.

I do think it depends on position as well. Pacey, attacking players who can score will always go for more

I actually think we could end up with both. We need two RBs and two LBs anyway, if you get Spence & Williams, you can get another LWB like the guy from Spain we have been linked with who is more of a punt - then you have 4 places covered and others can slot in when needed.

Neco plays on the left for Wales, maybe he sees himself more as a left back?

Yes and no.

BJ will play 40 games for us next season and is clearly a key part of our plans going forwards meaning to us he has a higher value.

Liverpool have no plans for Williams to ever play 40 games for them which is why I think the 20M price tag is a joke and they will rip off a smaller club.

How is it a rip off??? He's their asset and they can set whatever price they like. It's our choice to pay it or not.

I'd rather we walk away than pay over the odds for someone . I have no doubt that Cooper and Murphy can find better value elsewhere.

Will Liverpool stick to their guns? Now they have the lad from Aberdeen do they really want two reserve right backs? One of which will be a swiftly depreciating asset too. And he'll be getting fed up as he'll need regular football to be ready for the World Cup.

Of course they'll stick to their guns.

They have the same data has everyone else.

They'll already have a good sense of who wants a player of that calibre and what the alternatives are for clubs like Forest.

Fenner Sports is a data company that owns a couple of sports clubs. The people in Boston don't even watch the games. They watch their spreadsheets.

Yeah, as per the cliche, a player is worth what another team is willing to pay for them. It's worked before for Liverpool (Brewster, Ibe, solanke, Danny Ward, Joe Allen) and they can afford to have him on the bench (he's home grown and versatile), so why wouldn't they. They'll loan a bunch of these players out before the window closes, with other clubs playing a fee, some portion of the wages, or both.

I personally don't think he's at the level where 20m represents good value but our scouts and management might do, and they are who matters.

They can just wait it out and see what happens like the rest of the players we are likely targeting

The emphasis is on the buying team, are we willing pay an extra 3-4 million quid to get him in a few weeks early. As annoying as it is I would like to think the answer is no.

Is anyone else still in for this lad? If they want to get rid and there is only us in the race then we should be able to get them to accept a lower price.

Spending close to £40m of our budget on two RB’s would just be foolish in my opinion. He’s a right back.

Yeah it’s their choice to set the price at 20m, it doesn’t mean it’s not a stupid price.

If we pay 20M for this lad we would of been ripped off massively. It’s also a quick way for us to be broke again in 6 months as we would of told everyone we don’t mind being taken for a fool.

If we’re planning on spending stupid money on a full back we may as well give Boro what they want for Spence.

Hopefully we just look elsewhere.

You're saying this like we have no other options, Liverpool set a fee we either match it or don't.

Would you be willing to let Harbottle go to Lincoln for say 500k knowing that if he keeps improving we could get 1m a year later because they're a smaller club and it's not fair?

Problem is though is that by the time the window shuts we're already 5 games in.

It's a tough start anyway without making it more difficult but September has games we should be targeting 3 points from so we could really do without having to gel half a side by then.

I'm starting to get frustrated by the lack of activity I must say. The talk on a few players has really died down. Some folk on here can say 'have patience' and 'trust the club' all they want but we have a mountain to climb and we're very close to the players coming back for pre season.

I’ve never said it’s not fair. Life isn’t fair.

My point is smaller clubs need to stop allowing the bigger teams to take the piss out of them by ripping them off for average players.

Liverpool and other teams make stupid amounts of money every year as they bully small clubs into selling their assets for in the grand scheme of things a small price.

They then sell said player for 4x the value as small clubs are stupid.

I can’t be bothered to reiterate this again, if we player 20m for a 3rd choice Liverpool player we are f***ing dumb.
