I think we can all appreciate Joe Lolley and what a good signing and servant he has been for Forest. But his trick of cutting in from the right to hit one with his left foot no matter where he is on the pitch got old in the championship, never mind the Prem.

Don’t agree with the negative comments about Lolley. He’s had bad luck with injuries but certainly has it within him to be a sub this season at the very least. He’s a useful squad player.
A couple of years ago, Premier League Villa were considering a £10m bid for Lolley.

The thing that I've always liked about Lolley is that although everyone knew he was Villa through and through, he never spoke publicly about being a Villa fan, he shut it down and always remained loyal.

He may have suffered with injuries but he's always given his all to Forest.

I think his loyalty should be rewarded in kind.

I'd be surprised if we sign as many as ten. I'm expecting another four or five by the time the season starts, with perhaps another two towards deadline day if players become available.

All in, around £60m spent in total on transfer fees, with another £20m in January.

If we only sign 4 or 5 then it better be Messi, Neymar, Mbappe, De Bruyne and Van Dijk because otherwise we're going straight back down.

Our squad was small anyway and its had several limbs cut off since Wembley. If we get any injuries whatsoever we're bringing on the likes of Colback and Cafu which frankly would be laughable.

Can Messi play left back?

I find it funny that when we sell players to Premier League clubs our valuations of players are massive, and when we buy them as a Premier League club our valuations are now tiny.

Think what we value top end Championship players that we think can make the step up. All will be between 10-20m, that’s what we are going to have to pay for youngish players with that ability. If they then make the step up then they are worth 20-40m.

Pretty much, a young very good pro at championship Level could push close to 20m due to potential, a mid aged player closer to 10m.

There's a reason we spent 6m on a 30 year old Grabban, he's only going to get worse, age will bring injuries and no re sale value, yet we spent 6m because he's proven and he proved it again.

I’d love you to be right BR22. It would be fairytale stuff if he somehow returned to the prime “Ain’t Nobody” version of Joe Lolley from a few years ago. I fear that ship has sailed, whether that’s due to his injury issues or what, but he’s pretty much the ONLY player that has (continued) to go backwards under Steve Cooper. He looked like a one trick pony (a trick that didn’t work) with bad legs and zero confidence. He was brave to step up and take a shootout pen but they say that is still travelling towards the moon! I’m with you in spirit though and he’d be the prime Comeback Player of the Year candidate if he comes good in the Prem (and we had such an award)

Anyway. Nico Williams eh?…

Love the idea that getting promoted creates a 'bomb squad' - it's called progress. Some will make the step up, some won't. No-one gets promoted without needing to make some upgrades.

As for Lolley I don't think he's gone backwards undef Cooper, he's just never got back to his unplayable best.

I don't think he ever will the way we play now - a combination of being figured out and needing a decent injury free run in the side. He won't be afforded that in the prem with us, so perhaps a six month loan to someone might be best for all parties right now - see if someone else can get him going again.

I don't think we'll know which players 'suit' the premier League until we're well into the season. It's a different type of football, some will do much better than we think and some might struggle to adapt. It's not a given that players who seemed to be at the right level won't actually be much better next year. All good fun to watch, we shouldn't be writing anyone off before then.

With Williams pleased to see we've put in what seems to be a sensible bid*. Read something yesterday (who knows how true?) saying the fee is about right, they just want more up front. I quite like the idea of bringing someone in who already knows the player he will most link up with in BJ - one less partnership to develop.

* I think he's overpriced but by sensible I mean within the realms of what they want for him.

I thinking of Sheff utd and that romping first season the had in prem. They had the likes of Osborne, Robinson, mcburnie playing. Wilder was able to combine some quality signings with more standard players to get success. Hopefully we’ll be similar. sum we’re writing off Yates, colback, questioning legs of cook, signing of Surridge-then look what happened! We just need to have a bit patience-we now have an outstanding manager who can turn water into wine!

I agree with the volume aspect

Assuming Henderson is a done deal, we need:
LWB, RWB, CAM, CM, CB as starters, so there are your 5.

Then yeah maybe 2/3 in the last couple days of the window. I’d guess ST, Fullback, CM

Think we spend more than 60 though. I think we’ll see another 75mil spent this window easily.
Agree with your five identified as starting players but think we need two CMs so we have options beyond Yates +1.

We then need another backup wing back, CAM and striker at least to give us some depth because we will need it.

Add in Henderson and then you're at ten.

This is a great post & point.

And reassuring I'd say- they had a manager who's tactically great like Coops and Hendo in goal.

I love how people are writing Ojeda and Laryea off when they've looked decent in the limited minutes they've played.

And Panzo? The lads not played a single minute and has been a class above for the U23's.
People wrote Colback, Watson and countless others off because they weren’t in the team. They don’t learn.

Just caught up with a lad at work who's a Liverpool season ticket holder (I know!).

Says he's as good at LB as he is RB and even played in the front 3 when they had players missing for the African Nations.

We would have a versatile player on our hands which increases his value in my opinion.

He hasn’t got better. He isn’t as good as he was. So he has gone backwards.

Not Coopers fault and probably not Joe’s either. Just the reality of injuries, lack of game time and as I said before - becoming predictable at doing the same thing every time he has the ball.

Cooper immediately had him on the bench once he was fit enough to take a seat there so I don’t think the manager has written him off. I’m just concerned we’ve seen the best of Lolley and at nearly 30 he might be a player we can be pleased to have seen peak in our colours and wish him well IF he moves on

Last Lolley post on the Williams thread. Promise.

I'm just going to wait for things to play out. I'm not clever enough or knowledgeable enough to decide if players are good enough to play for NFFC this season.

Wait for the first match and see what team Coops choses; I'll bet there are a few surprises. The first match result might be a surprise, too; either way!

Lolley will have a part to play this season. No doubt about it. He won't start but certainly come off the bench from time to time.

The more time he spends on the pitch the less likely we are to survive. He has been useless in the Championship for two season why would anyone think he'll be close to acceptable for the Premier league?

Not a chance in my opinion. He's been beyond abysmal for a few years now. Can't cut it in the Champ so won't have a prayer in the big league.
