Meet the New-Look Recruitment Team (The same as the old team (nearly))

Heffing Psycho!

Steve Chettle
Can EM finally let and allow his backroom team to do their job and not sack them after his perceived "failure".

It's getting ridiculous and makes us look stupid, let the team do their job and assess come May not 2 months after "a disastrous window" which turned out to be actually quite good!!!
Expensive mistake as well; not only will he have been paid off when sacked but working on a consultancy basis probably means he's charging a lot more than what his salary was when we actually employed him.

Still, getting him back in hopefully provides a longer term lesson as you say, give people a bit of time.

The 'hit' rate for this regime had been very much above average, without which we would likely have been back in the championship. Last year's recruitment had enough quality to go with the required quantity.

With 2 weeks left in the window, needs must and we hope they can come up with another 2 to 3 quality players.

Exactly.

I always think EM has a fetish for firing people, never known a club owner sack so many people per season across 2 football clubs.

It felt like he couldn't sack Cooper so had to make some the Scape goat.

"In particular, there were concerns at the time about Awoniyi’s suitability to be a success, having signed from Union Berlin for £17.5million."

This quote from the Athletic article sums up the club, we didn't give or the other time to settle into the club/country and learn how to play with each other. You can't just throw new players into a team and expect immediate success. Danillo also typifies this, he started slowly and blossomed into a fantastic player

No offense taken 😂 - but yes he is back involved and I do know this to be the case. It is not formal and it would not surprise me at all if it doesn't get any formal recognition either. Just like Tyson Henly leaving an actual formal and important role at the club hasnt been communicated aside from a sports business paywall article. Doesn't seem to be the way it's done, fair enough if it's not playing staff I guess. They've used many consultants for different things and it wouldn't be something that's shared so it's likely that if you choose to not believe he's involved you'll not have any concrete evidence to dissuade you.
Would you care to share a little about yourself UEC as your post suggests you have some inside knowledge - fine if you want to be all Scarlet Pimpernel but would be nice to know. You may or may not be aware but I think it fair to say we are wary of those who suddenly appear with ITK posts (including one for instance who actually did seem to be ITK about the extent of the Richards injury, but was banned as their unnecessarily provocative style wound lots of people right up) so if you're saying you have sources then please at least state that to give yourself a semblance of credibility, might save a lot of grief in the long run.

All I will say is all recruitment teams since Cooper have been good and were unfortunate to lose their jobs. I would also say they all brought different strengths and if we combined all of them wed have a fine recruitment team. So I don't think its a slight on Ross Wilson its just Syrianos is a data stats man and there is a space for that in football as well as Wilsons recruitment. I just think whatever happens we shouldnt be spending big bucks on players over the age of 26 in my opinion. Just because the position we are in, if we get to Villa or Spurs level than fair enough but suitable for us now.

Exactly right HP. I hope he has engineered a good contract that not only covers him on a daily, weekly, monthly basis but with substantial bonuses for those that he introduces/buys after they have played so many games, goals scored etc.

Just TA and MN were enough for him to have kept his role, not so sure about the Scott fella. If Wilson needs a hand then fine, if his recruitment of medical staff improves our injury record by 50% or more then he too will have paid off.

No provocation here. Some connections. Some sources. Clearly won't be sharing them. Will be very clear on whether something is conjecture, 2+2, or fact. Very little from anyone who 'knows' is ever 100% fact anyway as usually the person posting isn't in the room but it's a close enough connection to warrant sharing given the spirit of the info. Was on here years back as a youth, left for the bright lights of social media, returned to see what's happening. Will share when I'm able and it won't be often. Honestly not too fussed if people choose to believe or not, that's a personal decision and I won't be laboring over it trying to convince anyone. Thanks for having me.

It's always interesting to hear an ITK view so I hope the forum doesn't scare this one off like the last one by peppering him/her with 'what's your source?' and 'how do you know all this?' nonsense.

Yep.

Anyway, I reckon UEC is more clued in than the chairman.

It's odd isn't it?

This data led so called 'moneyball' approach where players are signed that don't look too impressive eventually blossom into a fine team may be an idea that has some merit after all!

Only a complete tool would deem it a failure after just a few months and one transfer window and throw out the baby along with the bathwater.

To be fair an awful lot were questioning it at the time so you can sympathise and it takes a big man to acknowledge he may have got it wrong.

And a big man to come back and help (albeit very well paid to do so now) rather than telling the one who sacked him where to go.
My personal issue with the summer of 2022 wasn't a 'MoneyBall' approach as such, more that through lack of time or lack of clear leadership we didn't stick to one method or approach. If we were rushed then fair enough but then you have to give time as you say. Looking at some of our true MoneyBall signings I'd pick Surridge out as the one who came with a clear set of data the club liked to do a job we needed. It worked for the task at hand. Easier to add pieces one the puzzle is nearly complete, and have then hit the ground running but nearly impossible to do when you have no pieces in place. But then who has patience in the Prem?!

Thanks - as a former journo I know full well that there are very few times that there is such a thing as 100%, nailed on "truth" as you get whispers from one source while another can be completely contradictory. If you're willing and able to post rumours you've heard and snippets from inside the club that will always have a a caveat that its "as far as I've heard" then I'm more than happy to listen and with no judgement.

I miss the days of having 'insideman' leaking the signings of Danny Fox and Kevin Gomis on here, then he got really offended that we kept calling him names such as 'insidevan' so he left and never posted again.
A little throwback for some of the long term members on here haha :D

It's a shambles behind the scenes really isn't it, credit to Cooper for maintaining a relatively steady ship on the shop floor whilst utter chaos ensues in the back.

Looks like I was completely wrong in assuming that Surridge was a Steve Cooper call for us, having previously signed him on loan at Swansea.

Absolutely this.

Kneejerk reactions. It's not a professional way to run a club. We struck lucky with Dane and Cooper and everything else outside of that has been batshit.
