If the only purpose in selling our best players is to cover a high wage bill created by signing tons of shit players, surely the answer is to stop signing tons of shit players instead? :dunno:

True, but the only reason the smaller figure is not the same as the larger one is due to player sales. They are inevitable, whoever owns us and whatever the wage bill is.

If we pay wages within our budget (self-sustaining) we probably get relegated because the squad will be terrible. If we pay better wages, we lose millions and have to sell players to cover losses. It’s catch 22 til we get in the PL.

Our revenue is around 12th highest in the Championship, but most clubs overspend on wages, so even if we spent all of our £25m a year on wages we'd be expected to finish around 16th every season.

So yeah, maybe not favourites for relegation but certainly bottom half and battling relegation every season.

Yes, it's been a gradual process of relative decline since 1998 but accelerated in the past 10 years.

There are many contributory factors such as the huge increase in EPL tv revenue, parachute payments, being stuck in tier 2, the train wreck of the Fawaz years, little opportunity to expand commercial use of the CG etc etc
