Matchday 8: Barnsley Fan Comments

It’s a sellout crowd. Brian Clough day.

As *much as I loved Cloughy, I hope we can spoil the party. RIP Brian Clough, absolute legend.

Hope our fans respect the day tbh.

Cloughie is a legend and always proclaimed to be a proud Yorkshireman.
Can remember Match of the day when Forest had just gone two down at home to Sheff Utd in a match if They lost would see them relegated.

Cloughie came out of the dugout which he rarely did during the match and the Sheff u fans started singing Brian Clough Brian Clough Brian Clough to which the forest fans joined in and Clough was seen with tears in his eyes.

He always mentioned the Sheff Utd fans in interviews after that referring to them as those lovely Yorkshire people, My people .
Cloughie is a legend I hope we spoil their day but for the right reasons on the pitch not from the away stand in disrespecting this great man of football.

Pretty sure that Clough made his debut against us in 1955, too.

I've relayed this one before but I'll never forget the smiles on some of the young kids' faces at the time:-

One night down at Oakwell in 1991 we played Nottingham Forest in that Full Members Cup competition, also known as Zenith Data Systems Cup.

We knocked out a near full strength top division Forest and after the game all their superstars came out of the ground straight onto the bus totally ignoring a fair sized crowd of eager Barnsley youngsters who'd gathered to get the autographs of these famous players.

When Brian Clough came out last and saw what had happened he told every player to get back off the bus and for every one of them to sign for each and every kid.

It’s Brian Clough Day today and a sell out for home supporters let’s join in the respectful celebrations of the Grestest England Manager we never had then spoil their day by beating them on the pitch and not being in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

I'm going to be a bombastic ****** all day as a mark of respect*;)

What is the similarity between Nottingham Forest and a bottle of whisky... Cloughie never quit until he got them both to the bottom...

Big supporter of us lot when we were on strike Marlon, a top bloke that never forgot his working class roots.

Lose 4-2

Lose 1-3

0-4 them

0-3 them

3-0 forest

1-1 might sneak a draw as the pressure is on them playing lowly Barnsley.

Pinillos, good footballer not fast enough for this league.

Our final ball makes me want to be sick. So many opportunities wasted, Forest get their first chance of the half and score. No quality up top whatsoever.

Caught on the break again.

It's been all Barnsley this second half and then they score with their first effort on the break.

We have had so many chances and then the final ball or shot is hopeless.

Where are the goals going to come from?

Ben Watson’s first ever goal for Forest, sums us up tbh.

Lack of goals will relegate us I’m certain as we aren’t solid enough at the back anymore.

We’ve had much the better of this second half and yet find ourselves one down. I think McBurnie pulled us out of a lot of holes in the second half of the season the last time we were in this league. Unfortunately we haven’t got a player like him at the moment.

Leeds game we showed promise. Todays game we created chances so we was in it. Two strong sides and havent outdone ourselves any unjust.

We're already down as far as I'm concerned.

Forest are a good team who played crap but still won. We are a crap team who played good but still lost.

1 on target and lose one goal to nill. The only thing Collins had to save all afternoon and he couldn't.

We have six on target and as usual cannot find the net, which makes you wonder what's happening in shooting practice on the five days a week they train.

That's all the decent teams need at this level. We had 5 and did anyone ever expect us to actually score.

12 points we will finish on the max.

Jesus wept.

All over them for most of the second half. They were busting a gut to stop us and really worried/panicked. See keeper getting booked for holding onto the ball as an example. We had them rattled and with a bit more quality/composure we would have got something from the game. And deservedly so. We went toe to toe with a decent big spending team. Play like that most weeks and we will finish above at least 3 teams in this league.

We are not a million miles away, nobody would've argued if we got something from that game. I cant blame a lack of effort, we are just short of championship savvy!

Forest were there for the beating, but we're all style and no substance at the moment.

Best team lost.

Youngest inexperienced team in the league and we were for vast parts of the game the better team.

I wouldn’t say the best team lost, but just like last week we were unlucky to come away empty handed.

Decent side and their fans were top drawer for joining in and actually instigating some of the Cloughy celebrations.
They ain't going down.

Fair comments mainly, not sure they were the "best team for the vast majority of the game though". We controlled the first half completely in my opinion and with a bit more composure in the final third we'd have scored a couple at least. 2nd half they upped it but never really looked like scoring, even there shots on goal were routine saves bar 1 i think. our subs didn't help us.

I presume that the short break with scores and no comments is their impression of the first half.

Then after the second half all that is forgotten and "the best team lost"!

I like the fact that we have a young team is completely lost on other fans because of our playing style and that we actually bought a couple of players for small money.

They seem to have completely erased the first half from memory. When fans of a football team are invoking "deserved" and "unlucky" you know they are in trouble.

I don't get the whole scab thing.

We're Nottingham Forest, not NOTTS County.

Presuming all the mines were in places like Bassetlaw and Eastwood. Places I've never been to.

I don't know anyone who's ever had anything to do with a mine.

Plus, working down a mine seems horrible and cancer-inducing anyway.

They are one of the better sides we’ve played this season imo, can’t see them going down.

Respect to their fans for joining in the Clough celebrations.

Thanks for posting Calvin.

Bestwood, Gedling and Cotgrave were classed as Nottingham pits, I believe.

I know what you mean though, a lot of our fans have no connection to mining.

Those comments could have been us in previous seasons. Shows the progress we’ve made

I know what you are saying, but Nottingham City borders is a small place. I know plenty of lads who have followed us over the year from Cotgrave and Gedling, and no doubt there are many from Bestwood too.

Like it or not, mining and the dispute around it is intrinsically linked to the history of our city and county. However, many years have passed and the scab chant is very boring and no longer relevant to the majority using it or hearing it.

Hucknall and Linby pits were heavily picketed, as too was Babbington which was located within the city.

What a lot of those Yorkshire football fans are too ignorant to realise is that a good number of Notts miners also stayed out during the strike.

I've said before; we should take it back by chanting "Sabs, Sabs, Sabs".

The truth always lies somewhere in the middle.

Barnsley won’t be in the bottom three for long. A few tweaks and a bit of confidence in front of goal and they’ll earn a few points.

We don't really, we've a side with experience throughout the spine:

Lolley 27
Silva 26
Grabban 31
Sow 30
Dawson 35
Adomah 31
Ameobi 27
Samba 25
Watson 34
Robinson 26

Etc. We have Cash and Worrall who are both 22. That's it.
