Lewis Grabban

I think the fact that Cooper has retained him as Captain puts it to bed. Effort is non negotiable with Cooper and he's mentioned how much of a positive influence is around the place and that they talk regularly. I've never had an issue with Grabban at all, as you mentioned his work rate has always been excellent for a player in the twilight of his career especially with his willingness to even drop deeper and run the channels.

I’d like him to keep the “dropping deep” to a minimum now. There are two overriding reasons for our improvement beyond s’more attacking mentality and they are we are working harder and playing 15 yards further up the pitch.

It’s when we fall back into the habit of sitting too deep
That Lewis has to drop and I’d rather he’s doing his work in the last 1/3.

grabban wasn't always that hard working , plenty of times over the years where he looked disinterested but this being his last year and trying to earn a new contract have given him clear motivation and finally a desire to be the role model captain that he can be. I would say the same motivation lies with colback.

He’s been completely different when he’s had players working around him under Karanka and now Cooper.

Unsurprisingly, playing the lone striker role with no support is rather demoralising.

Calling Grabban lazy is just plain……lazy.
He’s learned to conserve his energy, as the best players do, for when it’s needed.
If he’d have chased every ball all game there’s no way he would have had the energy to create our second on Saturday

I remember everyone giving the club shit for making him Captain. I might’ve even, I’ve written so much dogshit on this forum I cannot remember lol.

I honestly think he’s highly regarded amongst everyone at the club even if it’s Worrall barking out orders on the pitch instead of Grabs.

He’s been brilliant even tho him missing sitters absolutely aches my ballsack.

He conserved so much last season he should OK for the rest of this season.

The difference between Grabban missing his chances and a lot of other strikers missing theirs is that he doesn't let it bother him and he still gets into those areas time after time. That's what sets the good strikers apart, they don't try and change what they do and they keep getting into those positions. Grabban will miss more because he's always in the right areas to miss/score them.

I will hold my hands up and admit I thought Grabban was pretty much finished after last season. He has shown so far this campaign that he continues to be one of the best strikers at this level. I do worry how we are going to go about replacing his goals when he does finally leave as without spending a fortune, that is very hard to do. Hopefully he fires us to promotion then that becomes less of an issue with our new found riches and the avenues that opens to us.

Guy is such a quality forward player and that’s never been in question for me. I think he has lost a little of that cutting edge with his first touch this year but he’s made up for it by doubling down on his work rate.

The best striker I’ve had the pleasure of watching, and we’re the club he’s played for the most. I think scored the most for as well! Forest is home for the bearded road warrior.

More bad games than good ones these days?

Next summer we have to buy a new attacking focus. We can't rely on someone who can do as little as that.

He was dog meat last night, but it is the first stinker he has served up in a while.

He just didn’t seem to be on the same wave length as Silva, Zink or Johnson. He didn’t anticipate passes, made the wrong runs, couldn’t bring others in to play, it was frustrating.

Hopefully Davis can give us a legitimate option when Grabban is having nights like last night.

A complex situation but what do you do with him in terms of his contract at this point?

According to Tails, he's on close to 30 grand a week which to be fair, I think considering his overall performance for us, he's been good value for.
But at the same time, he's 34 next week and he's out of contract in the summer.

He has shown some signs of declining and he has to be managed more carefully but actually could still see him scoring 15-20 goals this season.

IF and it's a big if, we went up, we probably wouldn't want to him to be our main striker. His level is and was always the Championship. Don't expect that to change.
But then if we were in the Championship again next year, I'm pretty sure he'd still score goals.

I think if we could perhaps get him to stay for another year or two on say 50-60% of the money then that would be ideal but he'd probably get a proper offer from Qatar or Saudi for example and finish his career somewhere warm.

I think he's been a fantastic player for the club, we paid quite a lot for him but he's delivered. It was only last season he struggled but lets face it, every one struggled last season.

£30k is £1.5m a year.

We're not going to get a better striker next year for cheaper without a significant gamble.

Easy decision for me, at least a one year extension. Maybe two if we can drill down the wages (and supplement with performance based bonuses).

I’d offer him another year, maybe 2 If we can lower his wages. He’s head and shoulders above anything we’ve had up top in years. I said to my mate last night if we bring Grabban on we will win and he came on and did the business.

I know he didn’t give a shit about Hughton also so nice to see him looking happy under Cooper.

I completely concur. No brainer really.

He guarantees goals and a certain level of performance, there has been zero drop off in terms of his ability / performance since he joined the club, 2 year deal for me.

We won't replace him, look at all the strikers we have signed since he has been here, none have come close to him. The guy is quality even in the bad times.

Thats a big statement. He's got undoubted quality, but we have endured indifferent spells where his running was questionnable & sitters were being missed regularly. Think it was the end of the Lamouchi tenure.

That is not a drop off in ability, that is a spell of form. Every single player will have that.

Overall he is the same player that joined us & that is consistency.
