His legs will go eventually but he's clearly a keen student of the game, one of the most intelligent players we've seen, always learning, looking for an edge. For me I think he's the best all round forward at Forest since PVH. Not just in terms of goals but in how he adapts to different players, opponents and systems.

Ally McCoist was glowing about him, especially his finish for the goal. Hes a player who has great intelligence on the pitch, and its obvious that he is one of the hardest workers too.
The little move he sold on Soares before Cafu played him in was fantastic, and it was more about how allowing him to play in which he can drop off defenders and find the holes in the back line, and in a perverse way, we're beginning to see that more, as the quality of some of the players around him, has improved from when he first arrived, and as such, they are able to play those intelligent passes.

Would take what McCoist says especially about playing in the striker position. He didn't really do much out of Scotland, but for most of his career, he was a top finisher. Pundits tend to talk nonsense a lot of the time but when you have someone who was an expert at a playing position for decades talking about how to play that position, it's usually worth a listen.

Offer him another year or two if it's a deal breaker. Still quick and still good. Can play in a deeper role as well. Top player for that level

If yesterday is an example of what he can do coming off the bench for 30 minutes then give him 2 years and get someone else to do the job for the first 60 before bringing a fresh Grabban on to make those runs against tired legs.

No brainer for me even if he can't do a full 90 minutes twice a week for much longer.

Indeed.
I said in the Davis thread, allowing Grabban to come off the bench with 25 minutes to go, made the most of all the work Davis had done. He caused a lot of trouble for the centre halves, and with the wide players pushing the full backs back, this allowed the centre backs to be targeted. Even if it wasn't a conscious decision, you noticed that defensively, Holding and White stood off a bit more in the second half, and as such, allowed us to play more in front of their back line. Patino and Lokonga weren't getting stuck in, and as such, it was a cracking bit of work from the entire coaching staff to spot an issue. Grabban isn't going to bully defenders, but, he has the intelligence and mobility to drop into the holes in the back line, and, especially when the guy you're replacing has put the defence on the back foot, you can take advantage of it.
The amount of times he popped up in 5/10 yards of space after he came on, was something that Arteta won't have been happy with.

I can't have been the only one thrilled to see Grabban coming on yesterday. I felt instinctively he could knick it for us. And, like others have said, that was a difficult ball to finish, much harder than he made it look.

He's got one in LB, but it's never really kicked off. Heard a few lads giving it a go yesterday in A Block.

Watching what he does before he scores is almost better than watching the ball into the back of the net. He reads the game so we’ll.

Thats what I like about watching him. His intelligence and movement is what gives him the time and space to score the sort of goals he does. IIRC, up until a couple of seasons ago, he'd not really scored many goals from outside the 18 yard box, and was known as being a penalty box predator.

Maybe we could dedicate the ‘just can’t get enough’ song to him, ‘Spence will tear you apart again’ needs to comeback as well. Remember hearing it at Birmingham away but not again since then.

Need to turn the Antonio song into a Spence song, that song was amazing.

As I said in the match day thread he veers slightly in front of the chasing defender as he gets into the box so the lad has to slow or trip him, then veers the other way for the cross to arrive. It’s a minuscule move that makes sure he can’t be caught. Filthy

If Lewis Grabban finishes as Forest's top scorer this season (which looks likely at this stage), he will be the top scorer for 4 seasons in a row.

A feat achieved only by the following players:

Wally Ardron.
Ian Storey-Moore.
Nigel Clough.

Certainly at this level we have had strikers as good as Grabban if not better. But for various reasons they haven't maintained that.

Collymore didn't stay more than 2 seasons before he'd scored loads in the PL and Liverpool got him.
The next one was Pierre, who never stayed more than 2 seasons anywhere.
Johnson was the next one, and then Harewood, broken leg really did more damage to him than just the injury itself as within 2 years of being top scorer we'd got relegated and Muntson had basically retired him.
Agogo and Holt got enough to see us go up without an actual striker mainly due to Smith being far too good for L1 but not quite up to CH standard.
Then we got Earnie, but only kept him for 2 seasons.

As much as I love him, and this isn't mean as a slight against Lewis, but over the last four seasons it's hardly been a high bar has it?

I think that's testament to Grabban's loyalty and character too.

He's stayed here in dire times under defensive managers, where he was being written off by many fans for being 'past it'.

He still battled and tried to score as many goals as he could each season. He's been a huge team player, running those wings and holding the ball up with intelligence.

I honestly don't think he gets enough credit. He's been immense for this club.

I'm a huge fan of Grabban and I think he's been absolutely fantastic for us. Assuming he stays injury free, the likelihood is that come the end of this season he'll have scored 15+ goals in 3 of his 4 seasons with us. Personally I think he's well worth a contract extension, assuming he wants to stay.

Apart from last year he has had 2 very good returns 15 and 20 goals, this year I suspect another 15-20 goals. So in 3/4 years he'll had hit somewhere between 56-61 goals which isn't bad.
