Lewis Grabban

As quoted elsewhere in the forum, Nixon reckons we're after L Grabz for next season for a sum around £5m-£7m

I think if Villa go up he'll be available, no doubt.

More chance of signing Lewis Collins.

Not for those figures being quoted. Absolutely no re-sale value, just like the Murphy transfer.

It's completely pointless unless there's real agreement that such a transfer alone is the difference between top six and not.

And it won't be.

Bournemouth trying to start an auction by the looks of it.
I doubt they’ll get £5m for him.

Why does every purchase have to be with resale value in mind?

To sign a striker with the same goal scoring record as he has this season but 3/4 years younger would cost 3/4 times as much.

If he comes in for three years and scores 15-20 goals every season he's paid for himself.

We ain't getting better for proven at this level for that price.

He's a good player, and a lot better than our current strikers. Next season will be Villa's last season of parachute payments if they don't go up so they may well cut back on the spending.

Players ith resale value can turn a massive cost into a tidy profit, look at Assombalonga and compare that to Murphy. It's cheaper long term to spend the money on a young player than someone over thirty.

I appreciate that but not every signing has to be made with that in mind. Grabban has stuck 20 goals away at this level this season, you can't really ask for much more can you? As I said if you wanted someone with the same goal scoring record this season but who was 3 or 4 years younger you'd be paying a hell of a lot more, that's the trade off.

We can't always make money, especially trying to get out of this division....which is the incredibly hard part.

We sold our only players capable of getting 15+ goals per season - Britt, Antonio, Burke - and what do we have to show for it? Lower midtable and the worst goal drought in the history of our club. A regular goal scorer is someone we absolutely have to break the bank for if we have any ambition to challenge the top half of the table.

I would rather use that 5mil to get Marriott and try to sign Abel from hull on a free. Grabban has no resale value and more clubs than geddy.

We sold Britt, Antonio and Burke to fund the running of the club. We didn't have the liquidity to meet day to day operations. What do we have to show for it? Our club still exists and is in the second division. It could have been a lot, lot worse.

People advocating the slow and steady building approach not being good enough after having gone through that have put this club at risk again if we go on a massive spending spree which fizzles out to more mid-table finishes.

Villa go up - don’t need him.
Villa don’t go up - can’t afford him.
Could have legs...

They could definitely afford him with the bucket loads of parachute money they get from the Premier League. If they go up it's far more likely.

It’s more a case of whether Villa want him and if he wants to join them. They can afford him either way.

I reckon they’d be less likely to want him if they’re promoted.
