I only think we need one out and out striker. I concede it needs to be the best one we can get whoever it is.

Brereton needs to be 2nd choice and getting game time. He'll only get better with it.
He's a kid, tries too hard sometimes, needs to improve his decision making but has bollocks and wants to learn.
He could easily be our top striker in a season or two.

Think it'll depend on a few things, mainly what becomes of Vellios, Murphy and Walker and also if we sign someone like Soudani who will play more often on the wing but could play up front. We need options up front next season, Brereton should get plenty of football but it should also be easy to give him a few games off every now and then.

Not sure I agree, he needs to be third choice and an in-and-out player.

He ended up having too much weight on his shoulders by the end of the season. He needs better players for competition to take the pressure off and let him develop naturally, not forced.

This is the most interesting aspect for me to.

Does he want to keep any of Murphy/Vellios/Walker like J'P says above. Personally I hope we don't. In Walker's case I would loan him out and not sell him though.

Then we may get two wide-attackers and 1 can play as a CF too which will enable Brereton to be 2nd choice if need be. I do think he needs to be starting enough games next season but at least he has that fire in his belly to be a substitute and a good one. It is something I've doubted about Walker.

My frustration is Brereton will be spending the whole of July with England u19s again just like last summer. But then Gomis seems to be facnied by Karanka a bit to cover for BB's pre-season with England.

I agree that you don't need two very expensive strikers, but you certainly need more than one. You'll need an expensive striker who scores goals, then you have Brereton, and the question is what sort of player you want for your third striker. Someone who can play alongside your no. 1? Someone who can also play on the side (but I think Brereton covers that role)? Someone from the overseas market who won't complain if he's on the bench or out of the 18-squad?

Personally I'd just choose a third striker who you can rely on to mix it up a bit.

If Brereton and your expensive striker aren't making an impact on the game for whatever reason then presumably you'd want the alternative option to be different. I'd probably look for someone with very extreme physical attributes to go down the brute force route. Pragmatically, if we're watching the cash, that might mean sticking with Murphy and going to direct to his head in the last 15 minutes if needed.

Or Rudy Gestede. Karanka likes him.

We need three strikers if AK is going to go with one up top. Two isn't enough.

if we need 3 strikers and we need a tall physical one, why not try loaning Oliver McBurnie from swansea , newly capped by scotland and did very well for barnsley on loan in the 2nd half of the season and won their player of the year.

Gerrard wants him at Rangers I think. I'd also be surprised if Swansea sold him, he's a good option at this level.

Can't see why Swansea would want to loan a player to another team in the same league as them. Either they'll keep him or sell him on I reckon.

so if swansea wants to sell, would he be a viable option to buy. he's young but more matured than brereton.

It's Baggio

I'd buy him.

If they are selling, I wouldn't mind us going for him. Good player, they'd be daft not to give him a go after his spell at Barnsley.

swansea still have their record signing Andre Ayew unless he's leaving, don't know if they have space for McBurnie

Both Ayew brothers will go.

They won’t want to play in this division.

Not actually convinced we are in for Grabban TBH.
I sort of get that impression too.

Think we were interested but not at the values being talked about.

Of the British based players we are being linked with the closest seem to be those with experience and on frees/loans, whereas ones further away seem to be those without experience and/or coming at significant outlay.

It looks like the club believe if we're going to splash out then we get best bang for buck abroad, and we will just support those players with battle hardened English guys.
