July 2019 Summer Transfer Window - Plans, Rumours and Speculation

That was back when we thought 2.75m on Earnshaw was a massive gamble and wondered could we afford to pay that much

Last time we made the Championship playoffs, we had an academy player in midfield who finished as our top scorer.

A French defensive midfielder who cost around £300k

A Polish attacking midfielder who cost around £1m

An actual captain/leader in midfield who knew the Championship, that cost £750k.

A solid back 4 that was never rotated other than the problematic left-back position. Morgan, Chambers, Gunter.

A dependable goalkeeper in those days who exuded confidence.

And a big money signing who was the striker expected to score goals.

If you look at our squad these days, it’s not too far away from the above in all honesty. I would like a really solid goalkeeper, left back and a couple more strikers.

We’ve got a natural midfield leader in Yacob who knows the Championship. If I were Lamouchi I’d make him club captain for this season. I’m sure the other players would respect and go along with that too. We’ve got a creative midfielder, we’ve got a big money signing to get the goals. We perhaps need to find another priceless McGugan who can pop up with important match winning/match saving goals from midfield. We need to establish a solid back 4 that is very rarely changed. And we need a goalkeeper that the players get huge confidence from when they look back.

Yacob is supposed to be a real charismatic guy too

Big difference in quality of manager though mate.

THAT's the problem, the owners & some fans keep expecting each manager to be as good as Billy coz they can only see his negatives, not his blisteringly brilliant positives which guarentee a top 6 finish given a full season.

I know nothing of Lamouchi, but I'm willing to bet he isn't as good as Davies.

It was big money back then. We were promoted from L1 and were the biggest spenders in the Champ for a couple of seasons.

We've not really spent anything this summer, but will still be labeled as "Big-Spending" Nottingham Forest

a couple of seasons , not really. that was the only time nd had to open his chequebook to stop billy bellyaching so much and then after that season, we went back to being the only club in the top 3 that didn't spend a single penny in january while the likes of newcastle n west brom did to make sure they went up.

Yes, really. 08/09 and 09/10, we were the biggest net spenders in the division. The rest of your post has nothing to do with my point.

and you think that no other clubs spend money. where's the proof that forest were the top net spenders.

Yes, I explicitly said no other clubs spend money.

You can probably find the info on Transfermarkt. It was well reported at the time.

You rate Billy Davies?

Funny. You've mentioned it before. :giveheart:

Silva -1 Mill
Muric - Loan
Ameobi - Free
Riberio - Free
Semedo - Loan

Out
Grant - Undisclosed (Probably be around 200k mark)

So far thats shrewd business we need shift Watson, Murphy, Cummings, Aryibi and Clough.

I would also look to sell the following if we can get good fees

Osborn, Worrall, Yates, Guediora, Hefele and either Bridcutt or Yacob, I prefer Yacob.

That should raise enough funds to go out and buy 4 or 5 extra players.

I don't think Ribeiro will be free (if he is indeed coming on a permanent deal), but yes we've done good business without breaking the bank so far, perhaps leaving enough back for a stellar signing?

Assuming that Muric, Semedo and Ribeiro are done, IMO we need a right back (Zeffane?), a Colback replacement (don't think we should put all our eggs in the Semedo basket, maybe someone like Luongo or Reed?), another winger and a back up striker. Not asking for much!

I don't think you are tbf, we desperately need another winger and another striker if Murphy goes we have 2 and Ansarafid keeps being rumoured to be leaving. I'd love the stellar singing to be a winger then we'd have an (on paper) amazing starting 11 with a decent second 11.

I agree, a lot of people will want our stellar signing to be a striker but I think a genuine top quality winger to play on the opposite wing to Lolley would make us very dangerous.

That's my thoughts aswell, Grabban is good enough, Karim is good enough ideally a big man to replace Murphy as an option (loan) and youth player as 4th choice, on the wing we have 1 good player 2 OK players and Appiah whose untested.

Heffing Psycho!

Steve Chettle
Agree with that as well, think a top winger on the opposite side to Lolley and we're looking very tasty. I'll say it again... Cavaleiro please!
