I reckon he'd be held in similar esteem to Eugen Bopp (i.e. a skillful young talent that just never quite made it and faded out of the game, and most people would just forget about).
Poor old Eugen Bopp. I really thought he'd have a better career in the game than he did. I don't think he ever really recovered from that knee injury he suffered at Derby. A few years after leaving us, he was offered a contract at Paul Hart's Portsmouth, but the Premier League rejected his registration and embargoed the club instead. He really didn't have any luck.

Trivia spot: Eugen Bopp was born in Kyiv, in Ukraine.

The funniest thing is some people said that he'd be more suited to playing in the Premier League because he'd get more time on the ball :ROFLMAO:
Fast learning curve for a lot of our fans who haven't really watched Premier League football for two decades and have missed the creeping physical requirements needed to play at the top league, whether that's height, strength, stamina or agility - you need one.

Sitting where I sit, it's the movement that amazes me when compared to the championship..... sometimes teams are like a red arrow formation moving off in set plays.... plus even average prem players are comfortable receiving the ball anywhere whilst under pressure... I dont recall it being like that even at the top level

Has to be said, watching Premier League football live in person is very different to watching on TV. I didn't appreciate just how quick, intense and physically demanding the Premier League is nowadays until this season, to say its been an eye opener is an understatement. Things people used to say like "the Championship is more physical" and "you get more time on the ball" in the Premier League have certainly been proven to be absolute bollocks.

Yup.

It's why your Benny Osborn's and Jack Robinson's can carve out a decent career in the Championship but can't make the step up. They're OK footballers but they don't have any stand out physical qualities. It's the same reason I wasn't getting the clamour for Surridge to replace Awoniyi - he might be a better finisher but if won't get the chances to finish, Awoniyi might.

It's also the reason Millwall and any other team that buys physical players can do alright in that league despite having no money, because the league isn't actually that physical.

Look at the players we've bought who've done really well and one's who aren't impressing as much as hoped:
Good: Boly (height), Awoniyi (pace/strength), Kouyate (height/strength), MGW (agility), Lodi and Aurier (stamina)
Struggling: Lingard (neat on the ball but not tall, strong, fast or energetic), Williams (same)

The level of athleticism in all the top European leagues is several notches above what you can get away with in the second-tier.

When I started watching Bundesliga games in real-life when I moved here six years ago, I was frankly astonished by the athleticism of many of the players, compared to what I had been used to watching (the English second-tier) for years.

It is almost - to steal a pun - a whole new ball-game.

Yes, there are plenty of good Championship players (not just Forest ones) over the years who I thought would make the step up because they were technically gifted, but after now watching Premier League football in the flesh I now think they would get eaten alive as they just don't have the physical attributes to compete.

I'd be really interesting to see if there was anything show how much our play has sped up, distances covered and passes attempted and completed between now and the start of the season. I think that's what really showed after our first few games against good opposition. I watched Fulham in their first games and they had clearly identified that as key and they were sharper, faster with snappier passing and better movement and understanding

I'd be very interested to see that too. Feels like we are a completely different team now compared to earlier in the season.

Passes attempted is the same on the first 4 and last 4 league games, in fact against Everton we did 444 passes, whereas we now average around 330. West ham and Newcastle we had about 290 per game.

Passes attempted is probably a red-herring given we defend deeper now, let the other team have the ball and look to transition really quickly. Against Tottenham in the league we really took the game to them, probably had lots of passes attempted in that game.

Distances covered by certain players might be a better barometer, but you have to pick certain positions because for example our full backs now are more withdrawn than our wing backs of last season, so that's not an apples vs apples comparison. Probably best comparison is MGW vs Zinkernagel and Yates vs Yates.

All stats in isolation are pointless imo, but it was the only one I could easily find from the question posed.

We're happier to sit back and let team do their thing and then we pounce!

I think Boly is our best CB on the ball, and he’s probably just an average CB with the ball.

You can see why teams just come straight back up nowadays without much fuss.

Yeah it’s rapid isn’t it. First few games I couldn’t believe how slow we looked.
We couldn’t even attack properly the first few games because we were so slow at moving up the pitch both with & without the ball.

We are much better at it now but still need to be quicker.

Harsh giving Aurier just stamina! He is one of the strongest players I have seen, is rapid & can out jump almost anyone. It’s no suprise he doesn’t struggle at all at this level with his physical attributes.

He's deceptively good in the air for someone who is short but he ain't winning any aerial battles against players like Mitrovic.

Agree on speed though, should have given him that.
