Ya cant hate a club that's given you a 1.3 MILLION signing on fee and paid him a fortune for 3 or 4 years.

I'd WORSHIP NFFC if I wa him.
Where do those numbers come from? There's almost never a signing on fee for players who are bought and are not free agents, and Carvalho was widely reported to have modest wages for the standards of British football.

It's all about mid-table...

I'm not sure you are right there Greek. My understanding is that "signing on" fees are pretty standard when a move happens regardless of contractual status at the owning club. In some cases players (and agents I suspect) negotiate contracts that attract a signing on fee payable at the beginning of every season (which is a total joke). Its just a way of stuffing more money into the mouths of those that don't need it, but its also one of the reasons why some transfers stall because if a player has a million in signing on fees within an existing contract hes going to want that even if he moves.

All that being said it might have changed over recent years but its the sort of "bung" I can't see players and agents giving up without a fight...

I’m almost certain every single transfer irrespective of the transfer fee the player gets a signing on fee.

So am I-its also why there is so much movement in some windows. Average players jumping from say Southampton to Newcastle usually aren't doing it because they miss the Geordie air, its the prospect of 500k in their pocket for doing F all that sweetens the pill...

I don't know what's customary in British football, over here however if an agent of a player under contract asks for a signing on fee, it's usually a deal breaker.

Yeah but you are forgetting that Carvalho is owned by the same big man. Once the decision to move him was made contracts will have been taken care of to ensure minimum drama and I would be surprised if there wasn't a signing on fee written into the Forest contract even if there isn't one at the Olympiacos end.

Football transfers are a sordid world.

Nothing's what it seems (undisclosed).

I don't know about that Raymondo-I think its pretty transparent there are a bunch of young blokes with highly paid agents who are determined to squeeze every quid out of the game and into their pockets.
Once you get beyond the romantic notion they are in it because they love the game its not that difficult or sordid...

I get that Cheepz.

But wtf is "undisclosed"?

It has to go into the accounts as a figure. Why not "Disclose"?

WTF IS IT ALLABOUT??

Let me guess.... Money

Of course, my guess is its to try and protect a club from the blokes with computers and XL files at other clubs whose job it is to work out who else has got a bit of brass. Its a bloody racket.

That actually never crossed my mind.

Thank you, I've been asking this for years on here.

Harry Arter was signed for an undisclosed fee and I read somewhere the other day that the fee was in the region of around £5m.

No wonder we wanted to hide that one, if that's the case.

This has come up a few times because that’s what it says on transfermarkt.com but theres no way that is correct.

They also have Mbe Soh as something like 5m, even though a French journo confirmed it as 1m euros with a sell-on.

No way in hell we paid 5m for Arter. Given his wages, and the fact he’d been out on loan for two years in a row, I’d be surprised if we paid anything at all for him. Bournemouth would’ve been happy to get him off the wage bill, much like the deal we did with them for Cook.

Yeah I think small fee, maybe £500k or so. Not even Forest would be stupid enough to part with £5m for a centre midfielder who hadn't played regularly in 2 years and was never a genuine PL player.

Now that you have a new record signing, maybe Alf's curse will be lifted and poor João can have a real football career.

I'm still not entirely sure if it will be with us though.

How's he gone on over there? I thought it'd be far more suited to him than the Championship, but then again he didn't exactly set the Spanish 2nd division alight when on load there either.

I will say thank God the club woke up to how overrated he was, and recognized we needed much better. Some of Marinakis' decisions recently have been top draw.

He's done OKish, but not great. I think the manager does not appreciate his usual moments of brilliance, because he prefers consistency. And he's not doing him any favours either, often placing him on the left, where it is clear that he cannot perform well. His lack of pace is also a problem.

He's under contract until next summer, and now that our traditional no 10, Fortounis, has been given the boot after seven years at the club, Carvalho will probably not leave this season, but I doubt that he'll extend his stay here.

Sounds like a familiar story lol.

Still, he is only 25 so has a few years to come good yet. I think his consistency will always be an issue though tbh.

He will end his career having achieved piss all but a big bank balance.

Fair play to him.
That's what most of us would want I imagine.
