Seems to be being tried out now in a deeper role...

Not sure if that's just desperation from the club though as that was in their 5th defeat in a row. Joao was subbed off before the end too (although he did play the majority of the game).

Just weird to think he's now doing more of a Yates role lol. Mind you, that league is a proper fanny league.

Nice pic - has he suffered massive facial burns?

Gouveia's problem is even worse with his neck eating his face.

Can we forget about Carvalho now? Don't need to see his name anymore, consign him to the history books like Greg Cunningham.

He was a very expensive agent inspired misfit, no manager would have made it work imo.

Where is he anyway? Ez he gone on to greater things?
To be fair karanka was getting a tune out off him when he first signed. Him and Burk probably good examples to the likes of Johnson etc why it's best to establish yourself in familiar surroundings before taking that big move. No matter how much talent you have without confidence it doesn't mean anything.

Alf will be glad to know that Estoril wish to sign his favourite player ever on a permanent basis and they're negotiating with us for either a new loan with an option to buy or a direct purchase.
Well, Estoril decided not to keep the player, so he had to return to us for pre-season. Most people thought he would be assigned to the bomb squad, but, given that we've made no transfers yet and we're severely understaffed (there are only 23 players including 3 goalkeepers currently in Austria where we're doing the pre-season training), João is with the team.

Today was the first friendly and Carvalho played with the starters in a different role, as a central midfielder, and he was surprisingly good in that position. A final opportunity perhaps?

At 26 you'd hope he'd be about to peak now. Fingers crossed for you chaps he finally does.
