Jesse Ellis Lingard

Really? I don’t remember reading about that to be honest. Not that I’m saying we didn’t. I thought it was straight wages which I’d heard varying figures banded about. I’m sure there will have been a signing in fee though.

If he hadn’t been injured £10m would still have been a decent deal for a player of his previous quality all in.

I’d still be amazed if it was that much though.
People will believe whichever figure they wanna believe. The reality is we don't know.

If Jessie can get a gig out there then fair play to him. Just shows how mental these guys are.

From a footballing perspective Jessie didnt turn into a great signing but from a PR perspective it worked well I'd imagine. I'd imagine plenty of last summers signings were made easier because he was here too. He was clearly a massive part of the dressing room.

Footballing side side = shite
Overall impact = good

I can’t imagine Saudi being Lingard’s thing. Too far away from family.

Being offered around by agents to go to Russia...

His career has completely plummeted in the past 24 months. West Ham loan star, to Man Utd bench warmer, to Forest medical room and dressing room mascot, to unemployed and now linked with joining Russia.

Did injuries have more of an impact than we thought? Or just general lack of maintaining proper fitness levels?
I just don't think the desire is there any more. He's made his cash and now has other non-footballing interests.

He was visibly way too heavy at the start of the season. He basically burgled us for an absolute fortune whilst offering nothing in return. Imagine if Harry Arter had an 8 year contract and I reckon you're around the same outlay and about the same output.

He definitely wasn't the same Jesse that West Ham had.

Not even a shadow.
Think it was a similar situation to Colback between his stints with us in that he was left to rot a little bit.

Obviously Colback became an important player where as Lingard was never going to be first choice over £25m sexy bastard Morgan Gibbs White anyway. But yes, injuries didn't help when he actually did start looking fit again. What could have been.

I think there must have been an injury that he couldn't shake personally.

He looked an absolute shell of the player i'd seen for West Ham, England & United. A proper shell.

I reckon we'd be getting similar if we signed CHO.

I’d say the long term affect of that Achilles injury. In his prime he was a light footed springy player. He became one bogged down with Achilles probs and unable to train properly. Always gonna struggle as you get older with that, especially when your game is energy, a turn of pace etc..

Not even sure he’ll drop down the leagues well as the games come thick and fast down there and the wages wouldn’t maybe motivate.

In terms of him finding a next club, given his form last year and his contract status I can't see anyone bring in a rush - he'll get his offers once the windows close. He'll find something once wheeking and dealing is off the table I'm sure.

I think the lazy/billy big bollocks accusations are way wide of the mark.

Everyone at the club has continually praised him and he was clearly very involved in the dressing room. If players are half arising it, especially on big wages, other players wouldn't be so supportive.

He's quite clearly struggled hard with injuries. He's lost that 5% that makes such a huge difference at the top level, especially for a player like him.
