It’s ADIDAS (again!) and KAIYUN SPORTS not MACRON, not BOXT, or UNHCR

Seems like we've got greedy and overestimated how much it's actually worth and now we'll probably scratch around for anything as the value decreases.

From a pure footballing perspective I actually prefer it to be blank but it kind of makes us look a bit small time I think...

Not as small time as we'd look if we snapped the hand off the first gambling sponsor that tried throwing a bag of cash at us, i'll take -£9m in expected revenue for the year as opposed to having some shit like stake.com plastered across the front of our shirt for the entire season

I don't understand the amateurish appearance comments personally, but I accept that it's just down to individual preference when it comes down to kits. Barcelona played without a shirt sponsor for years and looked classy whilst doing it, whereas now it looks like they've sold their soul.

Numerous opposition fans have already commented enviously on our team playing without a sponsor on the shirts; I had three different Newcastle fans alone ask me about it after the match up there and say that their betting company sponsor taints what they would otherwise consider to be a nice shirt (and I can't even remember what said company is called as they're quite obscure I think, so it doesn't seem overly effective for them).

Even lower end Premier League clubs can command considerable sums compared to those in the Championship, so I don't blame Forest for holding out for market value from someone other than the Williams, Victors & Freds of the betting world. Frankly, if you're going to besmirch the Garibaldi you can bloody well pay for the privilege!

I'd argue that rather than looking small time, the absence of an advertising logo displays a touch of class

Personal preference …….I’d prefer the home shirt without a sponsor, it just looks right for some reason

It doesn’t really reflect badly on us if you’re also taking into account that, hopefully, the club are aware of building the Nottingham Forest brand.

There will be millions of people seeing Nottingham Forest for the first time world-wide, and one of our strengths is our history and culture. Underdogs who reached unprecedented heights - our “brand”.

If you take a step back and imagine that we don’t want to become a typical “newly promoted / yo-yo” club then we need to do things different throughout the club.

So the options are getting a betting/crypto sponsor on there for a year, get £6m, and that’s us.

Or maybe we are also thinking that we want peoples first impression of our brand to be a higher standard than that. We want club partners to reflect where we aspire to be as a club.

Yes, we may not get the non-betting sponsor levels that the top-6 do currently, but that should be the aspiration though?

The long term benefits could be 100x what other people think we’re missing out on this season. Just need to attribute the benefit differently from the direct £.

They’ll probably announce a betting sponsor tomorrow now

Olympiakos has a betting sponsor, so I doubt it's a principle thing, unfortunately.
The "upside" for a Premier League club to establish a unique brand worldwide in the "richest league in the world", probably outstrips that of Oly. I would imagine there are two very different business models across the clubs.

I'm a bit confused about the whole betting thing.

I never bet on football and only occasionally do so on the horses - as in the Grand National, so any betting company being on the front of a shirt wouldn't make a difference to me as long as it doesn't look shite. To be honest, I like the shirt without anything.

For what it's worth i also haven't:
  • Bought a BOXT boiler;
  • Opened an account with Football Index, Betbright or 888;
  • Bought some Fawaz branded industrial freezer unit;
  • Been to John Pye auctions;
  • Shaken hands with Victor;
  • Used a Capital One credit card, insured by Pinnacle; or
  • Bathed in a bathtub, full of mediocre beers whilst wearing a pair of naff jeans.
I did once have a Panasonic mobile phone though but that was in 1996/97 and it was one of the only ones available.

In summary, i don't care if the club take the money off pretty much anyone. If we all carry on our lives as normal then there's no real issue and people should just take some responsibility - and in my experience most people do.

I am pretty sure I have sunk quite a few pints of Home Ales and Shipstones in my time.

I would draw the line at Skol, though…

I would like to have a sponsor but only if it’s a decent or cool one. Haribo would be nice.

Also, I think they should have TBT on their shorts. 🙄

lot of sponsorship is aimed at overseas viewers these days.

South African Hollywoodbets, sponsor of Brentford, uses its alliance with the bees to run a football training charity in South Africa which it gets local coverage because South Africans are premier league mad! It does have a small operation in the UK and Eire, but it dominance in SA makes it no8 in the top 50 betting sites globally. Brentford's organic support baseint big enough to warrant £6m shirt deal, but its prominence on it's home markets makes it worth it.

When Chang sponsored Everton, who for some reason had a big following in Thailand, they had about 50% of the market and allowed it to grow to 60%. But it was also the platform for creating an export market elsewhere in Asia then in Eastern Europe on the back of its brand identity in the Premier League.

The deal with SBOTOP netted Leeds the largest multi-year sponsorship. It's primarily a betting/gambling/gaming site serving East Asia. It does have a European operation, which grows from that deal, but the real eyeballs are across its home markets. Although its a Singaporean company, its big market is Indonesia where it runs 1500 weekly in-play betting operations which makes it the largest operator on live betting in the region.

etc, etc, etc

And about 1/4 of the global adult population has access to Premier League content - so that's 1.4billion potential customers, it doesn't matter two hoots how many of them are in Nottingham

Where the value of legacy fans could be of use is the sponsorship is being able to create an sustain and atmosphere - if that narrative could take hold across the Forest sponsorship could be highly valuable, because along with the historical narrative (which has a short shelf life, ironically), we could anchor more talking points in the analysis and wider coverage packages... I wouldn't be surprised if part of our spending in this window isn't being leveraged into brand Forest as well
