How the BBC’s sport coverage lost its way

This does not surprise me one little bit.
Totally wrong at the end, you don't need a license just because you have a TV.
Personally I thought he came across as a bitter old man that thought he had a job for life after being overpaid for 25 years. Not sure how much he was getting paid but I remember Hanson bragging about his expenses and basically taking the piss out of us all.

Aye...

I hated him when he played for the Scousers, and I always got the impression he hated NFFC too.

But, Robin Friday once shat in his kitbag, so just remember that when he’s winding you up.

Robin Fridays biography was one of the most disappointing books I've ever read... you just knew there was so much missing through no fault of the author

To make any sense of history you have to have both sides of any story. For biographies, you need a friend of the individual concerned to write, versus a strong critic, then judge. Plus most biographies and autobiographies are of politicians, show business persons and sports stars and only the fans of those people will buy the books, others are not really interested.

Curiously we didn't sell that many biogs in the bookshop, partly because I didn't stock them in any quantity, but mostly because I think our discerning customers just didn't believe most of the lives portrayed.

This is where football commentary needs to go. Stop pandering to players if they've played badly. Starting calling them out like this guy has. Everyone just needs to be honest. Stop dressing up shite performances.

I hope he got him again after the Villa game 😆

I thought the same. He was a f***ing dour, snivelling wet wipe of a pundit. I could never understand how he got the gig in the first place let alone kept it for so long. If he was paid 20p an appearance it was a rip off. Absolutely f***ing stole a living for two decades that ****!

I'd just reply in an Alan Partridge immature schoolboy style "well this is a poor interview"

MOTD2 actually agreed Maddison should have been sent off, and Danny Murphy even said we've had plenty of horrendous decisions this season.

I'm just going to lie down for a bit.
I quite like Mark Chapman and some of the younger pundits are pretty decent, imho (Mills, Osman, Warnock). I admire Ian Wright's championing of the women's game, if not his analysis, and Micah Richards is good fun. But Big Al's been stinking the place out for a long time, which is a shame, 'cos his stuff for the Athletic is generally excellent.

I don't think Lineker's a problem, given he's a very capable presenter, but you could probably ask Jenas or Alex Scott for do it for a fraction of the salary (and tabloid outrage - or swap it for a different sort of outrage) and they'd do a decent job. I doubt anyone's still particularly yearning for Des Lynam these days, smooth as he was in his day.

I'm constantly amazed at the vast salaries people are paid for reading an autocue or just spouting a few words then leaving others to actually do the work, for far less money. Lineker was sacked in his earkly days on Radio 5 for being boring and unable to cope with radio because you have to think quickly, you can't have dead air.

Then these people retire and a younger person obviously on far less money comes on and does an equally good job.

Just sack the overpaid lot and get on with the programme. The media is pretty much like football, more money than sense a lot of the time.
