I'm excited by this chap.

On the one hand he was voted the best player in the league- which is no doubt full of talent.

On the other you have to wonder why he wasn't snapped by a European club earlier if he was any good- like most promising Brazilians.
The Brazilian league is much weaker than most probably realise. It's had a bit of a renaissance in recent years as a bit more money has come into their game and they absolutely dominate a pretty weak field in the Copa Libertadores. But generally your better Brazilian sides would get a right good hiding if they played a side from the top 6 leagues or so in Europe.

Brazilian sides tend to include a combination of players not good enough to go to Europe, older players that have been to Europe and made their money before coming back (or failed and come back) or very talented but very young and raw kids. The latter group are younger and younger when they get their moves, sometimes going before they've even played a season in Brazil. It's pretty rare where a player reaches the age of 28 (virtually 29 when he joins) and has never played in Europe to suddenly come over and smash it. I'm sure he has a lot of talent but there'll be a reason he's been ignored by all the scouts.

Do you watch a lof of Brasileirão?

The last two times a Brazilian team played an English team in the club world cup final, it went to extra time both times, and Liverpool and Chelsea both put out full strength teams.

The bottom end of the Brazilian league is not great, but the top 4 or 5 teams would comfortably hold their own in the top European leagues.

I’d go as so far as to say that the current Palmeiras team would have a good chance of qualitfying for the Champions League in Germany, France and possibly Italy too.

I keep vaguely in touch with it, watching the odd game and highlights. Both sides took Europeans into ET but I seem to remember on both occasions Liverpool and Chelsea seemingly not that arsed and playing a couple of gears below normal, especially Chelsea.

Anyway Scarpa could turn out to be a gem but as I said he'll be 29 at the start of January and you could probably count on one hand the players that have moved to Europe in the modern era and succeeded in a top league that have been that age when moving. If he's that good how come no other European scouts have been interested over the last 10 years?

How do you know no other European scouts have been interested? He signed a 5 year deal with Palmeira at 24, just after he’d been capped by Brazil. Maybe Palmeiras have been pricing him out of a move? He has been a pretty vital part of their success these last few years.

If Europe really wanted him he'd have gone. I don't think they let a small matter like being under contract stop them.

Its the same in Argentina where they say that anyone looking destined to be top bracket is poached by the Spanish at 14-16.
So they are left with old codgers who are finished in Europe and collecting a pension and lower quality younger players filling up their top teams...

The opposition goal was something else.

His was a tap in that the other guy tried to claim 🤣

The assist was from a corner. Be good to have a left footed set piece taker

Agree about Lingard but by the time Richards is fit, I expect him to have a tougher task outing Lodi.

Not writing Lodi off, but neither he or Toffolo have really made LWB their own yet IMO. If Richards is back after the World Cup then I'd say LWB is definitely up for grabs.

As for Scarpa, any attacking reinforcements are a good thing IMO. The only attacking player I'd have as a definite in my starting XI every week is MGW.

True but I was more thinking that Lodi could cost say £30m but we already have Richards, Williams and Toffolo. I suppose a lot depends on how long Aurier's contract is - i thought it was 2 years but maybe it's just one.

Highest rated player in the league with an average of 7.61, scored 7 goals and has been in the team of the week 10 times.

Looks a player. Excited about this one.

He is a really interesting one isn't he.

He will be such an unknown for everybody including the opposition and he will desperate to prove himself in Europe.

I hope he gets game time though.

He is playing for the top side so it is easier to do well.
Hopefully Forest will be a functioning team by the time he comes over and can add that extra bit of threat up front.

he's cracking on Football Manager 23 when he joins us. Doesn't mean much, just saying.
Yeah he has amazing technical stats.

Here he is compared to MGW who I would say is our best technical player. Obviously they ain't 100% but good to know the style of player at least.
