Frank Clark

This might sound like a daft question but what did his role actually involve?

Basically, just being Frank Clark and turning up to various Forest events and dropping the old „oh yes, I won the League and European Cup as a Player, led Forest to a top-three finish as Manager and subsequently in to the UEFA Cup, and then I was Chairman of the club for a bit“.

I mean, as introductions go, it’s up there with, „Bond, James Bond“.

Surely any salary he took would have been a drop in the ocean compared to many of our other outgoings?

The fact that a club legend such as Frank seems to have been rather unceremoniously dumped leaves a rather sour taste in the mouth

True, but I'm sure Frank is very modest about his considerable achievements.

The guy is a proper old school gentleman and, as others have already said, a true legend of the club.

We've spunked millions on pieces of shit players who at best are bomb squad and we treat such a magnificent servant of the club like that?

No.

I agree. I would have thought he was doing it next to nothing, whatever he was compensated had to be small in the scheme of things. Unless of course he was on a ridiculously high salary from previous regimes.

Well, yes, having met him, he is as understated as a white carpet in a white room.

But that’s really irrelevant; the guy is an absolute f***ing legend of Nottingham Forest, and - to put it bluntly - I am not convinced the club should be treating him so shabbily and binning him off.

Only thing I can think of is that Dane just decided we had too many ambassadors and as he's an American he didn't have the same reverence for Frank that we would have and he just decided he was the one to go.

I don't see how we could have signed the players we did before September if we were that skint.

A great servant to the club. Of course he's disappointed but will know deep down that his work was a luxury most clubs cannot afford to keep in the current climate.

Most clubs don't have the luxury of being able to call upon a player who won them a European Cup and then managed them to a promotion to be an ambassador.

I don't suppose we are skint in the true sense of the word, but FFP considerations might be a factor.
However, might I suggest that Murphy does some bedtime reading(on the history of the club),and learn that this is
not how Nottingham Forest supporters expect the club to treat its true heroes.

A true club legend, and a gentleman too boot, let’s hope he feels and sees the affection the fans have for him.

So the club can bin off a genuine Forest legend like this? Why not throw in the tea lady and mascot too? Wastes of oxygen like Jenkinson and Bong are probably on more in a week than Clark earns in a year. Makes me sick.

Whoever is in charge of PR at Forest needs a kick in the bollocks immediately. The club does an incredible job of looking like a f***ing embarrassment even when things are finally improving on the pitch.

I am sure it is great comfort to us all that in dispensing with the services of a true club legend the club has been able to pay Gaëtan Bong for a couple more weeks.

How do the boardroom conversations actually go at Forest?

"Malaka Jonny, the team is finally winning some matches! How can we remind everyone the club is run by fools?"

"Do we still have those puppies you wanted to drown in the Trent, boss?"

"No Jonny. They've gone into the half-time pies."

"Let's throw a club legend under the bus instead then. Wait until Daniel Taylor hears about this!"

I’m probably alone in not caring (ready for pelters).
I’ve never understood the role of ambassadors-certainly not ones that are paid enough to trouble the accountants. Sure free tickets, space in a box, free booze in exchange for being at the CG but I honestly don’t see why limited funds should be spent on old players (no matter how much we love them) turning up to games.

Oh it also goes without saying that Bong and Jenks are a waste of space we all know that but they have a contract under law so we only have 2 choices-pay em or pay up the contract. It’s got f all to do with the big frank situation

I take it you're privy to whatever wage Frank Clark was on as a club ambassador then? I can't imagine it troubling the accountants in any way when compared to the inflated contracts dished out over the last couple of decades to wasters, charlatans and Steve McClarens.

No, you are not alone.
If this really has unfolded in the way the NEP has reported it then it is yet another apalling decision from an ownership/board that seems all over the place when it comes to (re)creating a culture to be proud of at the club. It's bad enough that somebody with authority at the CG thought binning off a genuine club legend and our most successful manager since BC in such a dismissive manner was a justifiable way to save a few pennies. The fact that the idea was then followed through should be a matter of concern for all of us. #savefrankclark

I will gladly volunteer to administer said kick in the bollocks.

It needs doing.

Well for you not to be worried you must be "privy" to the figures also....

In all seriousness how the hell do we know?. Given the way the club has been run over the years I could easily see Frank being on a 150k retainer-who knows there might be a driver employed to ferry him around and any number of grace and favour costs. I could imagine Tossers like Fawaz would chuck around contracts like that without thinking twice to those he liked and its quite possible they just rolled over into the Marinakis era and no one even noticed. To me it shows Dane is doing what a good COO should do and taking a look in all the nooks and crannies and trying to straighten out the business. He won't be doing this just to piss off Frank or a few fans for the sake of it, there will be a money issues in there somewhere or he why would he take the aggro?.
And as far as these sorts of roles are concerned, I have a friend (or maybe better described as an acquaintance) who is an ex player was an ambassador at Liverpool. He was paid shed loads and told me many times it was simply about getting pissed with a few suits and trotting out a load of tired old stories again and again. He thought it was great because he could get away from the wife and kids, get a free hotel room for the night wherever they were and act the jerk...the only time he even tried to behave himself was if he had to do anything for sky.

Did the same friend/acquaintance also win the European Cup, then manage the team and then become Chairman of said club?

But in all seriousness Woodcock should that lead to an expectation of a paid, but non substantive role in perpetuity?. I think I'm pretty good at my job and have contributed massively over the years but I'm not expecting the hospital to ask me to hang out drinking beer and shaking hands after I've retired in exchange for a load of money?. Thats why I have a pension?.

...And I'll stop there on this because its another one of those things that we will never all agree on. Like you all I like Frank and will miss his deputy dawg face around the CG but I trust Dane to make the right calls for the club.

Let’s have it right it’s not as if FC signed a ten year multi-million pound deal under the previous numb skull, he’ll have been paid a few bob to entertain new and old fans alike, it’s important the history and heritage of the club is passed down whatever the cost I’m sure the 1865 club etc will charge enough to cover the cost …..own goal by Forest I’m afraid……. Let’s hope SC pumps the reds up and the fans frustrations are taken out on Blackpool…. Thanks again Frank
