Ambassador role, sacked for financial reasons, apparently. I can’t imagine he was paid much to come to games and have a chat.

I thought he stopped working for the club in the Fawaz era?

Nottingham Forest legend Frank Clark has been let go from his position as club ambassador.

The European Cup winner, who has also served the Reds as manager and chairman over the years, says he was told budget cuts were behind the decision.

Clark had attended every game this season prior to the international break as part of the role, but will no longer be at matches when Steve Cooper’s side return to action against Blackpool on Saturday.

The 78-year-old says he was originally made redundant when football stopped due to the pandemic in March 2020, but adds he was assured that his job would be there when games returned.
Clark says he is “very, very disappointed” that has turned out not to be the case in the long-term.

“I was made redundant almost two years ago when the lockdown came,” he told NottinghamshireLive.

“That was fair enough because the job had ceased to exist really - there wasn’t any hospitality at games, and there was nothing to do with sponsors or that kind of thing.

“I was assured at the time that when everything was back to normal, I’d get the ambassador job back.
I’ve been to every game they’ve played this season, home and away.

“A week or so ago, I was called to a meeting with Dane Murphy, the new chief executive. He said cuts had to be made in the budget and I was no longer required.

“I’m obviously very disappointed, but I’ll just have to accept it and get on with it.
Finance was the reason I was given, and I have to accept that.

“I understand all clubs have to work to a budget, but I just find it very, very disappointing.

“The decision has been made. I’m very, very disappointed. But I have to accept it and move on.”

A Forest spokesperson said: “Frank Clark is much loved by all in the Forest family thanks to his sterling service as a player, manager and chairman. Like all football clubs, unfortunately we have to continually make difficult decisions concerning our operations. Frank is always welcome at the club and we hope to see him again soon.”

A great servant to the club. Of course he's disappointed but will know deep down that his work was a luxury most clubs cannot afford to keep in the current climate.

Times must be hard & budgets must be incredibly tight if they can’t spare a few quid for Frank in no more than an ambassadorial role.

Not sure how well off our fanbase is, could be one of those whereby his role is cover by fans/ex players. A bit like that Arsenal Mascot who Ozil paid to keep and club, only yto leave himself (for context Ozil was on 250,000 per week!)

Makes you wonder if there is more demand from sponsors for McGovern, Bennett, etc.. (i wouldn't have thought so) Or if they too are deemed surplus?

Arsenal were recently very generous with Derby over a player payment, perhaps they can take Osei-Tutu back and we won't have to shell out on his wages. This saving would more than cover the costs of Frank Clark.

One of the trueest legends of the club. How many people can claim to have played, managed and then been chairman of the club?

Not only that but he played for the club during its highest points.

Sad to see him leave again.

This has me asking one question-
What are the true state of the finances at the club?
Answers please,Mr.Randall/Murphy.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a bit out of order?

Finance issues? Really?

I don’t expect that whatever stipend the Club grants Frank will be troubling the scorers (as one might say) but when the football club is prepared to throw thousands every f***ing week at complete wastes of space like Bong and Jenkinson, then chucking Frank a few quid to represent the club is - to me - somewhat better business?

Maybe I’m just getting old; or my vision is coloured by having watched him as a player, as a manger, and as Chairman (and having met him once too, and he was a thoroughly genuine bloke).

Who knows what the salary was for Frank. As an ambassador it could have been £50k, the club might deem that an unnecessary resource which could be better utilised in other areas such as overseas scouting or part of Coopers backroom staff.

I'm comfortable with whatever Dane deems appropriate in terms of how the finance is used for resources.

Irrespective that times are hard, seems a very shabby way to treat a club legend.
