I threw £50k pa as a figure in earlier as a possible salary/retainer for Franks role, it could be conceivably higher at around £100k as an ambassador. With with our history of throwing ridiculous sums at people in the past it's entirely possible. I don't see what the issue is with Dane making this cost cutting, if he doesn't feel that it represents value for money or a return on investment, it's one of the main functions Dane is here to sort out.

The comments regarding Bong and Jenkinson are irrelevant as Dane wasn't here or responsible for those and we are stuck with them due to their employment contracts.

Another aspect to consider is that Dane wants to ensure he has his own people around him that he has employed and trusts. There has obviously been a culture of dissenting voices and people pulling in different directions with different ideas. If he wants to reign that in only have people employed in positions that are aligned with his philosophy and future planning for the club then that's completely understandable.

The club have stated their respect for Frank and that he is welcome back to the club anytime. Dane is simply removing what he believes is either an unnecessary salary and possibly a role that he feels is not functional for the club.

Yeah I don't see the problem either and it's probably not a one off as Dane is likely to be streamlining the non playing staff. Small sums quickly add up when you care to look.

As long as Frank is welcomed back at the club then it's fine. Having an ex Red, even a proper Forest legend like Frank, perpetually on the payroll until death isn't necessary nor useful.

And yes we will still be carrying dross like Bong but unfortunately footballers get longer contracts than us plebs so the best way forward is not repeating mistakes we've already made and again in willing to give Dane the benefit of the doubt to get that right for us.

Assuming he wants to come back after this

Personally I wouldn't blame him for telling Forest to do one

But then he wouldn't do that, because he's a true gent who conducts himself with class

It depends how he was let go surely. If it was with the suggestion there wasn't a need for the role anymore but he's welcome to come to any game he wishes and get the nice treatment then he wouldn't feel too hard done to.

Can't see Dane pulling the 'get out this is my club and your not wanted anymore' type approach that Fawaz would have favoured

I've met Frank a few times over the years and I've always found him approachable and friendly.

I'm not sure however if I can get too worked-up about him losing a relatively-handsome salary as a club ambassador. As an ex-footballer, now in his late-70s, he won't have earned anything even approaching the big money that top-flight players earn today, but I doubt he'll be struggling either with state, PFA and LMA pensions, and quite possibly a private one too to live on. It begs the question as to for how long and how much football clubs pay old players to meet-and-greet visitors on a matchday.

I've no doubt that Frank will always be welcomed at the CG and will (quite rightly) always have a free seat in the directors' box alongside other distinguished ex-players like Ian Storey-Moore and John Barnwell, who are always in attendance without having paid roles at the club.

All that says it that the decision was made and he can only accept it. It doesn't state anything else, and you're just putting your own slant on it.

If it stated that he was told to get his belongings and leave that second, and was then escorted off site by security I'd understand people being annoyed, but he was only told his job isn't required anymore.

I don't really understand the role of an ambassador outside of people being a brand ambassador for Herbalife or Anne Summers.

I'm pretty sure Frank will still attend games where he can and I'm pretty sure he won't have to pay for them either, the news has only lit the fuse on some tampons and given the dying Evening Post something to write about. In reality nothing has actually changed really. So until Frank starts flogging nutrition drinks and Dildos I don't think it's actually a big deal.

We have plenty of popular ex-players who routinely appear in the directors' box along with Frank at every home game Alf - Johnny Barnwell, Robbo, ISM, Bomber to name some. I doubt they're on a club salary.

Border is also a paid ambassador, so does the club really need more than one?

Not really the point mate. It's just a stupid move to be seen to be treating a man who's played, managed & chaired the club as disposable in order to save relatively minimal wages, when we've spunked fortunes on utter dross who'll have both cost and earned for a year here more than Clark will have earned his entire career at Forest.

The amount we'll be saving isn't worth the ill-will this will bring from some corners. There's already "#GreeksOut" sat in wait on the likes of Twitter. This is more ammo for them should things wobble again.

Clark's well loved and rightly so. Some fans aren't gonna take kindly to this regardless of the practical reasoning behind it. It's more unnecessary division for minimal benefit.

A move from Murphy to get the club ahead - not away - of its past, perhaps?

I'm a only a fag paper off 40. I wasn't born in the glory years that Frank was a part of; it doesn't mean I don't have a huge amount of respect for him (and his team mates, the manager, his assistant and their coaching staff, the cluib in general at the time). It doesn't mean I don't know who we played on our way to back-to-back European glory or who won us promotion and then the league. It doesn't mean I haven't watched hours of footage online of that era and watched all the documentaries or not felt such pride with it all. It doesn;t mean I haven't crowed about it to fans of other clubs wherever I've lived in the county. It doesn't mean I feel particularly connected to it either.

What relevance is it to me, really? Of what relevance is it to a 30 year old, a 20 year old? A 10 year old? It's a glorious history that should always be remembered, celebrated and acknowledged along with those who achieved it. I know it's very relevant to some of you who were there and this post may seem a little disrespectful, it really isn't intended that way. My life as a Forest Supporter though has - bar seeing us get to the 1991 FA Cup final, the Paul Hart season, promotion from league 1 and a bit of hope under wee Billy - been somewhat of a disappointemnt. Or it's just what I expect, our level, my expectation as a Forest fan. Of course, I have hope. I want to see us in the top division and staying there, of course. I want to see us win something, however unlikely that may be. Dane is the CEO, he's appointed Cooper who is the Head Coach (not manager) of his choosing to work with and implement his vision. I'm on board with it, I support it. Everything else has failed to replicate what Brian Clough achieved and that was a lifetime ago. I'd like to see a team of my time on the Council Hall balcony in Market Square. And a full colour picture of it smack bang next to some black and white ones from the late 70's/early 80's.

Of course, it could all just be petty penny pinching and Dane is knob. We'll see, I suppose.

Did you deliberately leave out the bit of Forest history that saw a glorious return to the Premier League with one of the finest strikers to have worn the Garibaldi, followed by a storming Premier League campaign to finish 3rd, and qualify for Europe again, and I think that went pretty well too?
Can't quite remember the manager's name myself either....

It's a privilege the club have got ex-players to call on who have won trophies to act as ambassadors. As someone else noted, so many clubs do not. Maybe Newcastle can offer him a role as a former player who has won honours (more than A Shearer for example). Think they could afford it....

I hope it is penny pinching. I want the club to be run with a ruthless efficiency because it's the only way were going to end up back in the Premier League.

Frank has given the club great service, but I'll bet he's been well paid for that work. Even before the major spike in wages, footballers were comparatively well paid compared to poor sods like me.

I sometimes think if you really love the club, you might potter along to games (given a free seat in the posh boys box) and say hello to a few fans and enjoy your day. Just for the hell of it; I mean, if you're retired what else are you going to do on a Saturday?

It's good to know Bomber still visits the city Ground. I like that.
