Financial Fair Play (FFP)

Everton's hearing will be held over 3 days next week the 25th/26th/27th March, that suggests their case is more complicated than ours
A Repeat Offence would go down as an aggravating factor, Double Jeopardy IMO wouldn't stick as it is a 3 year rolling period. 3pts the entry point, 2/3 for the breach, Plus 1 for aggravating factor, 1 taken away for early plea like us, so I reckon 5/6 points deducted
I honestly wish non of us had these sanctions because shit on fans but I keep hearing they will get a 1-3 point deduction although I've no idea what this is based on. Go easy because its the 2nd time? Make it less than Forest so it seems fairer?

Is it not for exactly the same thing as before? Again, they will just make anything up.

I mean, the signings last January were not exactly brilliant. Wood, Shelvey, Ayew, Navas, Danillo, Felipe, Scarpa

Woods turned it around now, but his fee s this year anyway. Ayew and Shelvey waste of time. Navas was ok, but very expensive. Danillo was expensive at 17m, Felipe for 2. Was ok and Scarpa for free was a no brainer and we made allot of money on him.
Navas was ok???

Would you have preferred Ederson?

With regards to Navas I'd have thought we could get similar levels from someone on loan for less wages. Navas did ok, nothing more than that, we did need him, but his wages were astronomical.

Injuries, did screw us allot last year and cost us allot of money.

Such as? Navas hit the ground running In the top league in the world. He had a calmness that comes with being a serial winner. We’d be a fair few points better off if we had him this season, I reckon.

I think we’re more likely to see a flying pig than EM temper his ‘ambition’.
Fair point, but I applaud EM's ambitions - I wish previous owners had shown just a tiny amount of his drive. Obviously, some of his methods in trying to achieve them have caused this mess, which may, or may not send us back to where he found us. Whatever the eventual outcome, I still remain hopeful that this episode will persuade him to perhaps roll-back a little?

Everton fans already apoplectic. I don’t think they’re expecting much of a penalty second time round as they’ve already been punished for 2 out the 3 years. Not sure it works like that though.

I'm trying to catch up on the last couple of days but i'm finding it difficult to follow the hissy fits and arguments going on due to the paragraphs of boring stuff inbetween. Could a mod please delete all the sensible posts about ffp so the fall outs are easier to follow, please?
Good plan.

Here's the thread, cleaned up, in précis:

It looks like we might be in trouble with PSR/FFP

We're in trouble with PSR/FFP

We're probably going to be charged for it.

We've been charged.

There's going to be a hearing.

The hearing has started.

The hearing has ended.

The adjudication is -4 points.

Forest have issued a strongly worded statement about the whole thing.

They're Scousers, they might be the less offensive blue variety, but they're still Scousers and we all know they'll be gutted if they come out of it with nothing new to whine about.

Everton fans seem to have the idea that it is a double punishment.
When the reality is the charge they got this season should have been put in place last season as it was for a breach in 21/22.
I believe their accounts were late and they mislead the league on key bits of information and that is why teams that got relegated last year were threatening legal action.
So, this charge is completely new and is for the year 22/23. Everton can not combine the 2 charges and cry foul as they are completely separate.
If it qualifies as another “serious breach” you can imagine it will be another hefty points deduction.

I see that the mardyarses are still upset with the owner, mathematics and not being as sexy as Citeh.

Is it too early to start a bring back Fawaz campaign? I miss his lovely cushions and cheery promises of world domination with Philippe Montanier.
So, you’d rather we didn’t criticise the owner and his actions, just on the basis that we’ve had a worse owner before?
And if we do criticise we’re ‘mardy’?
Seriously, is that the level we’re at?

Not really, either party can appeal if they feel the panel has ruled unfairly.
I wasn't disputing that they can, of course they can but they wont which is distinctly different.

Exactly right - the PL have made this hard for themselves by not applying Everton's punishment last season, so now they have to catch up by applying 2 penalties in 1 season. You'd think the scousers would have experience of having prior offences taken into consideration...

It got very mardy last night. Forest aren't going to appeal and neither will the Premier League. I reckon Marinakis probably thinks he got away with the gamble, and he's probably right.

It is what it is. We're still here and we'll still be here next year. Enjoy the ride.

A worse owner would have taken the parachute payments and let us go down.

In fact If it is a serious breach and the punishment is soft to avoid “double jeopardy”, it is us that would have every right to feel very aggrieved.

Buy two eggs, but claim in the accounts that the eggs cost more than anticipated because of Covid.

If we are struggling to comply for 2024, then it might be better for us in the long run if the independent commission do take into account the 'double jeapordy' and treat Everton's 2nd charge with leniency.
