Financial Fair Play (FFP)

Green Jumper

"Nottingham Forest Are Premier League"
Whether we agree with the fairness of the rules, they were the rules and most can accept we technically breached them.

The club's arguments about not having PL history and paying out unexpected promotion bonuses are thin at best. Had the Atletico bid been accepted, Forest may have had an argument to allocate the eventual revenue to 22/23, but they actively chose not to accept the bid, fully aware at the time the revenue would have made the difference.

By any measure and given the previous internal warnings, that's reckless and totally unacceptable. The seeming lack internal discussion to what should have been a critical warnings and the continued expenditure on new players is a failure of governance that we should have left in the past.

I really want us to challenge the points deduction, but for the good of the club I think we move on. The statement is clear enough over our very public view of the PL, one that I dont think had been released before by any club, although many have thought it. I think we move on and release further statements and push back, highlighting their bias, plus any opportunity to vote against the PL do so.

I only pray we are compliant for the next accounts.

Also seems pretty clear the minimum for Everton will be 3 (for beaching) but highly likely to be more depending on the level of compliance with the panel.

This is why I couldn't get excited about the draw against Luton at the weekend, our deduction was always going to be enough to put us below them. Had we won the punishment would've been the 8 points requested.
I don't buy into these conspiracy theories personally

If you read the Commission's findings the reasoning behind a four point deduction is clear

And, to boot, it was determined last week.

Maybe. Who knows. It just feels like this season is being manipulated for "the show", otherwise the bottom three would be all but certain already as we'd be on 32 points and comfortable.

Don’t know if this has been said, but why didn’t we just accept the Athletico bid in June. Get that acceptance on record. Then when the deal falls through, almost perfect defence as you could claim you fully tried to cover the losses on time.
Either because we arrogantly thought we could flout the rules or we didn't have a clue what we were doing.

I don't really want to know which. Neither is a good look.

Fair play to the club and our representatives for dealing with this in such a professional manner that even the corrupt league are singing our praises.
Those 2 extra points saved could be massive.

One thing that is irking me about the 'so much more/worse than Everton' thing is the complete ignorance around how they cooked their books. The COVID losses thing is a f***ing disgrace but it seems everyone is happy to turn a blind eye to it. Crazy, or am I missing something?
Not just Everton’s either, though they were the biggest culprits. See also spurious sponsorship deals generating massive income streams. Allegedly.

To be fair we're dealing with a person here not sacks of potatos; it's easy to forget that

Maybe Brennan didn't want to go there? Maybe the club didn't want to mess him about by agreeing to a deal they know might well fall through?

Pure speculation though

Yes fair play to them.

Of course, if they'd have dealt with it professionally in the first instance we'd never have been charged, but fair play to them all the same.

Maybe but ironically if the breach was large I’d be less upset. The fact it was a minimal breach seems more like to me that someone has fecked up their counting. That to me is unforgivable.
Well its happened, so irrespective of wether you do or dont find it unforgivable its something you'll just have to get over and move on.

We could have accepted it and told Brennan we were happy for him to turn it down as we were just playing the system.
I think he and his team would have understood the necessity.

I guess my point was there are human factors to the sale of a player that don't exist when selling other commodities that could've been at least part of why we didn't accept the Atletico bid

If this guy is correct that you got three points for breaking the rule, another three for the extent of the breach, and then minus 2 because of mitigating circumstances, and if indeed you have proof that the delay in Johnson's sale was known by that Premier, then with the appeal you could probably remove the extra three points for the extent of the breach, but not the three points for breaking the rules. So you would only win one point back. Is it worth the trouble?
Does this also mean a minimum of 3 more points for Everton?

I usually agree with your posts on here Alf but, at this point, we need to find a way to galvanize the entire club in our fight to stay up, and this statement should be the rallying cry for us all as we fight the power.
I think we have to go after them. We urgently need a siege mentality to inspire some fight. This could be the catalyst for that. We have been f**ked over so much by officiating, I honestly don’t see how it could get worse as some of decisions have been staggering anyway - f*** em I say

Guys, maybe @Alf-engelos Mindminackers could be persuaded if we had someone in charge that could inspire that siege "World's Against Us" attitude 🤔

P.S. apologies for invoking the spirit of the dark one on an already gloomy thread. Couldn’t resist 🤣

I have no evidence to substantiate this, but another possibility could have been that Marinakis gambled we'd have secured more than enough points as a cushion against any points penalty?

Do you think the great man would have worried one iota about that? Ambition is allowed, I guess he should have said to PT let’s just aim for a finish of 12th in Division one and that will be fine. it is about facts not antagonising people and that’s the facts as the people who run our great club see it. I am fed up of people running our club down and seeing everything as a negative.
We'll see where it gets us I suppose.

Obviously I hope we survive because I love my team.

But I also want to stay up just to spite the EPL.

8 points they wanted and wont even give the date against Man City.

Up yours, EPL.
