Derby v Forest

Just got back

First goal, the guy wandered through the middle of our defence unchallenged. Breckin invited him to shoot, he did so and that's what you get.

Second goal looked marginally offside, but I suspect Breckin played him on.

Whoever said Dobie would come good this season is an idiot. Waiting for his comeback? He was never there to come back. The guy is terrible. Example, Moloney takes dribbles itout of defence suavely, plays it inside to Lennon, who turns and passes to Dobie, Moloney has made the run, Dobie holds the ball up for too long, and plays it right back to where our right back would be if he hadn't gone on a run expecting Dobie to turn and play him in. Sheep get the ball, unchallenged, and force a good save from Roberts.

Moloney was very good tonight. You can see he has a football brain that surpasses most of our team. He was also up and down the line constantly, when he attacked he took players on well, and should any Forest player consider getting into a decent position, we would have scored a few.

The bloke next to me turned to me and tried telling me how good he thought this kid was. I replied with the inevitable, 'I know!'.

He and Lennon were the only people on the pitch who looked like they could compete with Premiership opposition.

Perch was poor when he came on, he seemed unsure about making runs into space when Lennon or Moloney were on the ball, almost as if he expected nothing to come of our posession.

My opinion of Roberts is that he was slightly overwhelmed. He lacked control of his defence, but that said, I imagine it's difficult trying to get Breckin to play well.

So often does Breckin receive a pass then play it straight back where it came from and back into trouble, he never changes direction of play, which is imperative when someone has passed the centreback the ball.

On the upside, had a nice pint with Sedge and Sedge Jnr :yarr!:

Just got back in, glass of whiskey and had time to think. Apart from the obvious and loosing to the Sheep, I think there were several good points to come out tonight.

First chance I have had to see Malony? (spelling), what a prospect that young man looks. Did not appear out of place or phased by the opposition or crowd.

Neil Lennon I actually under estimated this mans talent and influence. What a signing. Spread the ball and linked well with all Forest players around him. Has the knack of reading the game and always appeared to have the happy knack of being where the ball is....anticipation I believe it is called or reading the game. What ever Lennon has it.

McGugan seems to have carried on maturing. Young goalie made a couple of excellent stops and looked a confident and capable deputy to Smith. Great to see Sammy get a full match under his belt.

Forest passed the ball and continued to pass the ball all night. Great.

On the down side we lacked penetration up front, Dobie worked hard for no reward, Holt looked distinctly uninterested to me, Holt has the ability but at times lacks application tonight being one of those match's. No suprise as he was subbed.

Forest played last seasons defence almost and conceded two goals which had last season stamped all over them. First one defence backed away allowing forward convenient time and space to pick his spot...thank you very much. Second, a route one ball left Forests back line floundering for pace and it was game over after 15 mins ish.

I think we have a great deal to look forward to, bearing in mind the players we have to come into he side. Unfortunately tonight apart from a couple of changes it was last years seasons side along with last seasons failings. We did lack bite and penetration up front but then again both Tyson and Agogo are yet to feature. So comment there would only be on what was available tonight.

Just got back...

The Good:
Maloney - before tonight I thought Perch was sure to be the RB, and I highly rate him, but he's got a real battle on his hands with Maloney now pushing for a place. So nice to see an attacking full back, beat players, 4 in one run, and generally looked to get forward, kept a cool head and played good football.

Bennett - I admit before tonight I forgot why I liked him so much this time last year - I was reminded tonight. Controlled aggression, great determination, won tackles, won headers, battled. He wants success.

McGugan - looked class. On the ball he had time and his distribution was great. Remember this was against a Premiership midfield. Also nice to see him try to get the fans going.

Lennon - did a really good job breaking up play, and his distribution and calmness is first class. Did get really frustrated with his team-mates though, especially the front 2, and was not afraid to hide it.

The Bad:
Dobie - he chases and tries, but so could I. Never looked like scoring, just generally poor in every aspect. I'm not saying this because he's popular to criticise. He's just not good enough.

Holt - disappointing tonight. Never troubled Derby, apart from coming close-ish on one occasion. As a front 2, Holt and Dobie were extremely poor.

Breckin - spineless, paceless, just not good enough. He plays some ridiculous passes back to the goalkeeper which puts pressure on the 'keeper, did it to Smith last season, and did it again to young Roberts tonight. Not what a captain should be doing.

Overall:
A good run around, decent performance, played some really nice passing football at times. Both goals were preventable, poor defending allowing Derby to take advantage, but we weren't over-ran in the main, and I was especially pleased with the style of our play. Bring on the Blades!

Not very often it happens but reading through Rich Crouchs summary, Matts and my own .....I think it is fair to say we have all seen the same match tonight.

The good, Bennett, Lennon. Maloney and Sinclair.

Bad, Dobie (I hate to say it because I want him to do well but he won't.)

Holt didn't do much. I think Paul Smith would have stopped both goals but only because he is and exceptional keeper. Roberts made a few good stops and did o.k.

We passed the ball very well (yes we actually passed) until the killer ball. Mainly because of no wingers and little up front.

When Agogo, Tyson, Davies, Cohen and Commons are added we will be o.k.

I reckon that could of been 4 or 5 if Derby had knocked it up a gear.

They had a lot of 2nd choice players in their team. Beardsley, Camara, Moore and Teale all probably won't be starting next season.

The first goal was a brilliant low drilled shot and personally I think Derby were very impressive down the left side.

Maloney looked good, but I think he needs to build up some muscle, can get shoved off the ball quite often but that can be worked on with experience.

He had a decent chance second half, not clear cut though.

Thats what I thought of the chance as well Andy, If people are going to criticise then keep it in perspective.

Here's my two pence worth.

Derby were up for the game much more than Forest in the first half. They were quicker and first to every loose ball. They had good pace up front.

I appreciate this was not our strongest line up but we were desperate up front. Lacking in invention, desire and ability. We cant and should not pin all our hopes on Tyson and Junior. Forest definitely need to bring in an experienced and proven goal scorer.

Our defence looked hesitant and sluggish. Breckin looked a bit of a lump.

Q: Were we beat by a Premiership outfit?

On paper "Yes" but in reality "Fu*king laughable". Yes they won, but they were the home team playing in front of 25k ish? and they had the referee on their team who obviously tried to impress the derby folk so he gets a good word and gets recommended for some Premiership games. He was a complete "Homer"  :wanker: :wanker: :wanker:

My claim to fame tonight was starting the "Wanker, Wanker" chant in the second half after derby fans did not stand when we say "Stand up if you Lv Cloughie". My 8 year old daughter was most impressed with her Dads display of passion.

So to conclude, derby will make farcical entertainment for the next 8 months as they get knocked from pillar to post around the Premiership before being ejaculated from the trap door come Spring.

Forest look a decent outfit for the third division, but a quality striker is a must if we are to gain automatic this time.

So there we have it, derby managed to win them selves a piece of silverware for the first time in 40 years? on their home pitch against a team two leagues below.

Tonight for me, was summed up when derby fans did not instantly stand up, when we sang "Stand up if you love Cloughie".

They cling on to some distant memory of a manager who brought them their one and only small notable piece of success 30/40 years ago and then left when they pushed him because they did not like his management style. Twa*ts  :D

So they have the small piece of self awarded silverware, but we have 17 years of memories of the greatest English Manager ever to grace the game.

Only one club has the right to call Cloughie OUR Manager.

It was a good work out for our boys. TBH after 16 mins I thought it was going to be an absolute pasting but we got ourselves together and played some good stuff. I wasn't bothered if we won or not. Yes it would have been nice to win but it wasn't competitive. I think our fans were fantastic. We sung throughout and really gave our lads good backing. The team was very similar to the one that failed last year so I wasn't very hopeful when I heard the line up. We started off badly and 2 defensive errors cost us. These errors need to be sorted out quickly because we have conceded a lot of sloppy goals this pre season.
Moloney had a great game and lived up to his promise. Got to the byline aswell which was very encouraging. Bennett was superb. Gave his all and was a display of real passion and committment. McGugan played very well and looked very confident on the ball and assured of his ability. Obviously doesn't like playing RM as he kept cutting inside leaving Moloney exposed as with the 1st goal but this is not his natural position so he can be forgiven. Lennon looked a class above and did his job very well.
On the downside, Breckin was poor. Lacks quality, passion and courage for me and is obviously not good enough. Dobie was again very poor. Tries hard but is just never going to do it for us. If he starts the season up front, then we are in a real crisis.

All in all it was a good workout for both players and fans and has hopefully given us much needed match fitness and sharpness.

Playoff winners isn't real silver. Promotion is the prize there. We have a Brian Clough Trophy they'll never have. Let them dream on. "Premier league? You're having a laugh." :p

On another note did anyone else notice that is was Lennon who came to clap us at the end right away, as a captain should, and Breckin just couldn't be bothered to take his duties seriously as usual.

I'm quite content with the result. It would have been nice to win but that was never really gonna happen. We did ourselves proud against the sheep shaggers and we'll be seeing them again soon. The boot will be on the other foot then when their talent jumps ship as they come crashing back to earth, as we ascend to greatness. (Fingers crossed)

Firstly we need a striker.

Secondly Moloney and Bennet played well. (and Dobie is the same usual piece of shit)

and Finally - I agree with winnits, the whole idea of the competition stunk, when Derby fans started singing "Brian is a Derby fan" it just undermined the whole idea. However well done to the Forest fans for responding with "For the Brian Clough stand up" which nicely everyone joined in.

Still - loved being back at a football match (even if it was a fairly boring game). Decent atmosphere from another fantastic forest away following, and have decided I am going to Sheffield Utd, depending on funds. YOU REDS
