Richard Keogh has been told to take a pay-cut, or potentially face the*sack, according to John Percy of the Telegraph.
Fair offer. He stays he can only help mentor younger players. He leaves then we don’t pay him. Simple and a good offer from the club which shows there has been forgiveness towards him.
Would love to know how we could sack him and not the other two*considering he wasn't even driving. I'm sure his lawyer would eat that one up. Or, y'know, shoddy journalism.
So the 2 main culprits have been given a fine and are already back in the team and playing like nothing happened, but the passenger who's already suffered the most is now being threatened with being sacked? Sure he's the captain and should know better, but if you're exploring the possibility of sacking him then you should have probably done that with the other 2 as well.
A morale stance based on FFP and book value. Disgusting. This club is a mess.
Think the club are well within their rights here. Presumably the insurance doesn't cover the player (wages) in this case given the circumstances.
I think the sacking rumour will be nonsense - I can't imagine anyone at the club leaking this information but I can imagine his agent doing it to generate sympathy for the player - In which case you throw in "yeh, the club threatened to sack him" it makes a story sympathetic - Whether the club have done that or not.
He should go sue his 'mates' who left him for 45 mins.
I might be in the minority, but it doesn't sit right with me that 3 people were involved in the incident and 1 of them (the 1 who didn't actually commit a crime) is facing the sack whilst the others aren't. Sure the other 2 can play and still contribute, but that shouldn't exempt them from the same punishment as Keogh.
He was the club captain and should
A) Have*made sure the players did not get into that state.
B) He was the one not wearing a seat belt, which must have had some bearing on the injuries he sustained.
C ) Wasnt it him that tried to give the police a false name?
I thought C was made up by Forest fans?
Everyone can keep banging on about the club doing what's best for itself because Bennett and Lawrence can still contribute and have resale value etc. but to me it's just another morally wrong decision by a football club who've been in the press for all sorts of morally wrong reasons over the past few years.
There's no moral issue here.
Oh there absolutely is a moral issue here. 4*people*were involved in the incident. 2 people were driving their cars whilst drunk and 2 people were passengers. The 1 individual who has already suffered the most from the incident via his injuries, is now also suffering the most severe punishment of the 4. How on earth is that not a moral issue?
He chose to get into the car. He chose to not wear a seatbelt. He's come away from the incident unable to earn the wages he's given; and done so in a situation where insurance will not help his employers cover the cost. He's now literally a waste of money for 80% of his remaining contract.
Handing out the punishments to Lawrence and Bennett that we have and sacking Keogh on the spot would have been a perfectly balanced decision. Offering him a pay cut instead and continuing his employment IS taking into account the personal suffering he's already incurred.
It shouldn’t be a tough decision for Richard, unless he is in severe debt and can’t afford to do it. I can see him taking the pay cut, he loves the club.
As for the press stuff, the stadium sale and Rooney signing come to mind. Sure they're both legal and haven't gone against any rules (unless the EFL change their mind), but even the most biased Derby fans can surely see selling a stadium to yourself to avoid FFP punishment and having a betting company heavily involved in a player's arrival isn't a great look.
Get injured by your colleague driving pissed = take big wage reduction or get sacked.
Drive pissed and injure your colleague = slap on the wrist then*crack on as normal.
Yes, but the other two are able to play and earn their wages now.
Debatable one of them has ever been able to play.
According to The Guardian, he’s now been sacked.
Is it only me who feels really sad about this? I know he shouldn’t have got drunk, got in the car etc, but what an awful way for his time at Derby to end.
What a mess of a club we far too often are.
One down, two to go.*Good riddance.
Only way to deal this*poo, hopefully Bennett and Lawrence are gone in January.
This is shameful. Kick out Lawrence and Bennett too.
"The club will not tolerate any of its players or staff behaving in a manner which puts themselves, their colleagues, and members of the general public at risk of injury or worse, or which brings the club into disrepute."
How are the other two still playing then?
It makes a mockery of the fact that we’ve welcomed Lawrence and Bennett back into the fold, despite them being the only ones who put “themselves, their colleagues and members of the general public at risk of injury or worse”.
Unless we can make some money from them, in which case they'll get a slap on the wrist.
Still can't believe we let 2 drink drivers that caused life-changing injuries to a passenger who they left without treatment for 45 mins, just walk straight back into the team. People now talking about leadership. There isn't any at this club.
At least we finding out what the Derby way is now: break the law, flee the scene of a crime, leaving your teammate injured as the result of your actions and you get a six week fine. Get in the car, and get a career threatening injury as the result of it, and you get sacked.
Once again the club shows it is driven only by money, otherwise there would have been consistency and the punishments would have been the same.
There must be more to it than what we know.
The offer of a reduced wage prior to the sacking seriously undermines the Club’s legal position and case with this...
Absolute silence from the club as it breaks across all media platforms. The*media team at Derby always seem to be totally inept and 4 steps behind. Another embarrassment for our club.
Good, as Captain he should have taken Lawrence and Bennett's keys off them, sad way to end what could have been a Rams legend
You're joking aren't you. Taking the keys off a drunk. He's likely to have got a punch in the mouth - and he couldn't risk his good looks.
Fair offer. He stays he can only help mentor younger players. He leaves then we don’t pay him. Simple and a good offer from the club which shows there has been forgiveness towards him.
