Club Statement

This is a very good point.

It would be folly to buy Rangers an expect to make money (you won't) and the Scottish League isn't big enough to attract the kind of players who will bring success in Europe (which of course is the only way Scottish teams will make serious money).

Whereas - feasibly - a potential buyer of Forest could, with a bit of investment, get the club to the Premier League (look at QPR) and that's where real money can be made.

That's a rosy-tinted view but it does show that buying a Championship level club is a more attractive proposition than Rangers.

The gig's yours, f*** off Seymour Pierce you can stick your Nigel Wray up your arse!

Right, let's de-constuct the statement:
1 The family meet the financial commitments until the start of next season:
This translates as "there are 5 months to sort out the future or there is no future;
2 In talks with several interested parties...
This means there is not a serious contender to buy the club, but we are phoning everyone we can think of and begging them to make an offer
3 Investment bank Seymour Pierce retained...
ND put them on a no sale no fee basis so they are going to work their balls off becuase if they don't find a buyer within 5 months they get sod all compensation for their efforts.
Believe me, if there is no one in the wings wanting to buy Glasgow Rangers with their history and heritage, there sure as hell is no-one rushing to buy a down at heel provincial club about to drop into the third tier and requiring lots of instant cash with little hope of any payback.
Never has the old joke been more true:
Question: " how do you make a small fortune out of a football club...
All together now with the age old answer.......

I can see why you have the user name you do, if thats your interpretation.

People over 'analysing' a statement with their own opinions and views and reading something into nothing is some of the best stuff you can read.

People wanted him out, they wanted the people he'd employed out, they were quite vocal about it. Can't help but wonder how much of an impact such things have had on the estate's decisions.
Ah.

Be careful.

What you wish for.

I'd think it unlikely that the Doughty family (and estate) would not honor his wishes by refusing t keep the club solvent and functioning until such time as they can get rid of something that is not only a financial millstone but an unwanted constant reminder of bad times.

There will be a queue of people wanting to buy us, massive fan base, good stadium, small pay off to the doughty family (they will never get 70 mill so would accept anything) so you are look at a debt free club that could be in the prem for 10 million easily - 60 mill reward.

If I had a spare 20 mill I'd gamble on us.

Perhaps the Doughty estate will take a cut price offer. They relise that not all business deals are successful. The estate might be willing to cut their loses and sell the club for half the money that Doughty put in (£90). So £45 million could do it. i think Reading got sold for £40 million a few months back didnt they?

If we stay up then the history and tradition of Nottingham Forest could tempt someone to take a punt on a Championship club. Due to the clubstill being very unsure of what league we will be in next season might give a buyer more leverage still.

Very interesting times adhead for our club. Lets just hope that Doughty's estate remain set on selling to the right people not just the highest bidders.

Did it ever get confirmed how Nigel doughty died? Was it a heart attack in the end, never did see what the outcome was?

If we were a London club we would have been snapped up long before now. I just hope someone with lots of money sees the potential here before that potential disappears for good.

Is there any money to be made out of Forest?

If we was moving to that new ground I'm sure we would have no problem being bought by someone.

Unless there is someone who has a love for the club we are left with money makers.

Isn't that the case with anyone?

Personally I would love a move to a new top class stadium. A new start is needed on and off the pitch.

Just a quick point on Victor Chandler, would a bookmaker be allowed to own a controlling interest in a football club?

It's seems like a conflict of interests which could easily be open to abuse.

Stoke's owner owns Bet365.

I hope that Doughty's main legacy for the club is ensuring that the club is sold to buyers with the right intentions.

I'd rather us drop to the depths of the Football League, whilst being run in a responsible way which treats us fans right, than be brought out by a billionaire with no connection to the club or no interest in our long term future.

Randy Lerner at Villa was mentioned earlier; one of the very few examples of foreign owners in the UK who run their club responsibly. But there are far more negative examples than positive; the idea of the Venkys at Forest makes my skin crawl.

I hope Doughty's estate pushes not the quickest sale, but the best sale for the club. Although the involvement of Wray and Barnes hardly fills me with confidence.

was a 49 or 51% stake that was sold in Reading for £40 mil

They would have been able to emancipate Man Utd from Premier League TV deals, ensuring that Sky would always get Man Utd games, though.

What a truly depressing state of affairs. Speculating about which rich owners might want to take a punt on us, with the only ones likely to do so being those who believe there is money to be made.

I still think a move back to a traditional club model is the way forward. All this debt and outrageous gambling to try and get to the Prem needs to end. Football needs to change as the economy needs to change. At the end of the day all I really care about is having my football team to go and watch, preferably playing at the City Ground. I don't want any tycoon, speculator or oligarch taking over trying to make money until we lurch to the next crisis.

Why can't we just exist, pay players wages that we can actually afford based on our revenue and see where that takes us. That would be more than enough for me. Can you honestly say you'd be any happier if we were Chelsea?

I hope you'll be happy with Leasgue one then, this club simply doesn't have the revenue to compete anymore.

You say that, yet we've ploughed millions and millions on silly wages this season yet we're still right at the bottom. We offloaded all our expensive players under Paul Hart and we looked far better than we do now.

Fans these days seem obsessed with where our next million pounds is coming from, it's just not sustainable.

If we were Chelsea? 5th in the prem, disappointed because they might not qualify for the champions league?

True. I'd love to be 5th in the Prem, but I can't say I'd be delighted with a very dubious Russion billionaire using Forest as their personal plaything, sacking the manager every 5 minutes and hiking ticket prices up so I can't afford to go any more. Not much use to me that.

Company owned by an individual called Victor Chandler, who's a bit of a Forest fan, iirc. Might not be. Dunno.

I don't think Victor Chandler is a Forest fan, or even that he's interested in football apart from for the benefit of his business. They only started sponsoring us because a few years ago they wanted to get a bigger share of the football market and as we were getting close to the start of the season with no sponsor, we offered the best value for money. We certainly weren't the only club they looked into.*

Now he may have an affinity with us after sponsoring us for a few years (and shooting a few ads at the City Ground), but a) he's interested in making money, not giving it away, and b) he's a bookmaker and will only gamble money if the odds are in his favour - investing in a football club isn't a safe bet.

*I was told this by a senior figure at VC so no reason to doubt it.
