I didn't hear him say he had one. Sounded like his interpretation of the statement. Maybe he's psychic.

I hope he's right, if the need arises. The statement on the OS makes no such suggestion.

Villa are undeniably better off now than they were under life long fan Doug Ellis, though.

Steinbrenner owns the Yankees, the world's richest sports team. He also hates John W Henry, owner of Liverpool FC, passionately.

In that case, he's all good by me!

This surely isn't great news. Our financial future has been guaranteed for 5 months... Then what??

By then, hopefully, the sale of the club will be progressing.

I would imagine - although this is merely speculation - that the sale of the club is progressing through Seymour Peirce at present, and the estate of Nigel Doughty have agreed to fund the club up to the point of sale.

This is important for two reasons; first, it implies there are interested buyers, and second, and most important, it means we won't be left high and dry come next season, whichever division we are in.

Does that mean that the funding doughty spoke of putting in place is now void? I know it doesnt say anything about that, but doughty said he'd cover the period of the current contracts which is, apparently the next 2 seasons.

It was a personal commitment so it died with Mr Doughty - who knows how far he had taken it into making it a legal comitment it might well have been along the lines of the mutual understanding he had to roll the debt over each year instead of trying to collect it.

Beat me to it.
I'm sure we were originally covered by ND's word until the end of season 2012/13. I'd have to check his resignation interview to be sure but that's what I remember.

We appear to have lost a year/season of stability.

He was honouring contracts that were signed under his Chairmanship, they ran until June 2014.

People wanted him out, they wanted the people he'd employed out, they were quite vocal about it. Can't help but wonder how much of an impact such things have had on the estate's decisions.

And do I presume that this is not now the case?

I'm concerned... what's gonna happen to the £70 million plus that Doughty stated he was happy to write off? The debt still existed at the time of his passing. Does this mean a new buyer will have to fork out £70m+ to buy the club? Or is the debt written off and the buyer will need to find money to buy the club itself, cover player wages etc and a little more for investment?

We're hardly going to find a load of people wanting to buy a bottom half Championship club (or possibly League 1) for costs of up to £100 million are we?

One things for sure... staying in the Championship is more important than ever before by the looks of it.

The vast majority of people around me were anti Mark Arthur as opposed to Nigel Doughty.

Michael and Helena Doughty are still sending out very pro Forest messages, which suggests that they probaby don't hold any grudges against the club(fans) as an entity, whilst the final decision will probably not lie in their hands alone, their public messages do give me hope.

They are showing themselves to be far more classy than I could hope to be in the same circumstances. Pretty humbling.

Mark Arthur: friend, employee, confidante of Nigel Doughty. The anti-Mark Arthur stuff will have hurt the Doughty family s well as the Arthur family.

This doesn't fill me with confidence. I appreciate the club making this clear and communicating with the fans, but it raises more questions than answers. Like the nature of the 'several interested parties' - how many is 'several'; what are the nature of these parties; how deep will their pockets be? Also the question of what happens after July if a buyer isn't found.

I'd like to think the reason we couldn't find an owner beforehand was due to Doughty placing a large price tag on the club. Hopefully now the estate are willing to accept a nominal fee for the club now; although I'd like to see a clause put in ensuring any new owner would commit to a certain amount of investment to be put in place over the next few seasons. However, I doubt that the firm handling the sale or the estate would be that concerned over a clause that would limit the appeal of the club.

I just hope we don't end up with a shady group that don't have much money, but are only concerned with the associated 'glamour' of owning a football club and/or whoring out the precious history of our club.

United have been to three Champions League finals since the Americans took over. Villa pushed the top four for three consecutive seasons under Martin O'Neill after the Lerners came in. It's pretty parochial to think that a football club can only be run effectively by someone with 300+ matchday programmes in their spare room. Steinbrenner's been linked more than once to us, he has some experience of running a successful sports team.

Didn't Steinbrenner die in 2010?

it is clear.....consortium owned, led and consisting only of Billy Davies. Installed as CEO, Chairman, Board of Directors, TAP and Manager. Billy then only has to ask Billy if I can buy a player please.

Not sure that abuse leveled against one of the families employees (a very highly paid one who is the public face of the club) would have a huge effect on Nigels family, sympathy yes, but not sure about hurt. They will definately recognise that it goes with the post.
I struggle to sympathise with Mark Arthur as I do genuinely believe that he is and has been overall a negative force at Forest, I know that this is completely opposed to your opinion, which I do respect but don't agree with:)

He'd slate himself for not having the funds to move the club forward

I think they recognise that some of it goes with the post, but what they've seen over the past 9 months coming from Forest fans will have had an affect on them.

It's all conjecture, of course, but I don't think the fans have done themselves any favours this season.

Were Nigel still with us I would dispute that, but under the circumstances now I tend to agree.

What about his lawyer?
