Who was the last GK to get an assist??

Assist is one thing but he has some way to go before he matches Paul Smith's goal. Ran it (admittedly slowly)from the halfway line and casually rolled it into the net

I remember that Forest v Bolton game in 93/94 where Stan had been injured. Came on, but norm booted the ball forward and stand jostled the defenders as norm’s ball ran through and Stan scored. Then about five mins later Stan elbowed the Bolton defender (I think it was Phil brown) in the face and got sent off. Anyway that is the last I remember but there must be more recent ones.

I have not been his biggest fan, Which I thought was justified, But he has improved no end since his sending off , I think he has learned an important lesson and improved as a keeper for that I salute him.

well , he finally have some competition for the goalkeeper position , not someone who's here just to collect his paycheck aka jordan smith. In the past 2 seasons, samba can have his annual blip of form where he's been poor only for jordan smith to replace him to be just as poor and samba have no problem getting back his position. horvath though hasn't done anything wrong and was only out of the team due to his international commitment, Samba knows he cannot rest on his laurels anymore,

I've genuinely never seen this 'loss of form' I see people mention. Sometimes I feel like I watch different games as other than the sending off Samba has never let us down

I think I may have said on this thread before but you watch keepers like Lloris in prem give away 4 or 5 goals from errors this season, or De Gea a few years ago went through a phase of the ball slipping through him, hell Petr Cech went through a phase of being awful on corners and Peter Schmeichel made multiple absolutely insane howlers, Kasper Schmeichel punched into his own net in a cup final, Inter Milan keeper last week messing up

I could go on and on and on and on.... I honestly have no idea why people question Samba, and to me it made even less sense when we were a crap championship side under Hughton and we were questioning him like we could somehow do better

Agree with the above, I think sometimes people expect keepers to be flawless. Samba does make the occasional mistake, but if he didn't he'd be at a champions league club.

The way we play the keeper is gonna have a mistake in him whoever he is..... very much like Ederson is at City.. but the positives far out weigh the negatives in that type of system.

Like you though I don't recall a drop in form, everybody in the team was poor at the start of the season so that doesn't really count.

Hes one of the best in the league, has been since he come and I wouldn't swap him for anybody.

Agreed lads.

My only concerns were can he push himself to go to another level & find even more consistency? Does he have the ambition and drive to do it. Being 'punished' and left out the team recently I think has given him more focus to hopefully do that.

Been a brilliant signing. One of our best in the last decade or 2.

He's premier league standard and has been for a long time. His only minor weakness prior to this season was claiming crosses/set pieces which he now does a very good job of (even throws in a few michael jordan-esque one handed claims for style points)

He really dominates his area alongside his henchmen Wozza & McKenna

Yeah I had actually said to my brother when discussing Samba that there will come a day he will get caught out when playing as a sweeper, and that I just hoped people realised it's an inevitability with what he does

Then it happened, against a Premier League side, where the pass forward was much higher quality than normal, into the perfect position for "should I stay or should I go" if too much on it, Samba gets there, if less on it, Samba gets back. Then the finish, which I felt wasn't really appreciated by the pundits at the time, again in Championship does the striker have the quality to put that away?

And then you go on FB and you see everyone slagging off Samba, saying he should be dropped, even "typical Samba" despite never happening before.

It's madness, although I will say people on here were level headed, probably why I only look at comments on FB to roll my eyes, but read this forum much more closely to get see actual balanced discussions and real insight!

Is consistency really an issue for him, he has always been consistent for me.

He has definitely looked more focus but I don't see any difference between the way he is playing now and before the red card.

As lavelle says, the lack of form stuff is a bit of a myth.

Samba is good enough to make the step up make no mistakes about that.

Samba is - as well as being a fantastic keeper at this level, and possibly above - absolutely cool as f***. What a character. You have to cherish these players because they don't come along all that often. And he adores Forest and being at the club.

I’ve seen pretty much every goal he’s conceded here in some form or another and he’s been at fault for what, about 4 or 5 max?

The Leicester goal, Stoke penalty has to be down to him (even though he technically didn’t concede it), seem to recall he deflected in a shot down the middle last year and recall one where he guessed side early and got it wrong…..

Can’t remember too many more.

That’s pretty good consistency for me.

Last Season, I saw Manuel Neuer, arguably the world‘s best goalie, make two absolute rickets in the same match against Stuttgart.

That Brice has only been directly at fault for so few goals Forest have conceded, is both a credit to him and also evidence that he is arguably the best keeper in the Championship, and one capable of playing in the division above.

Wrists made of concrete and iron as well. The distance and power he gets on saves to get them away from danger areas is unreal.

It's not just saves. I think he made more errors in his first season on that front when our goal was under heavy threat many games. Maybe about 3/4 times but it would have been harsh to criticise because of his brilliance in the saves he made. He has always been an excellent shot-stopper.

But I think Cooper mentioned earlier in the season & I saw it in games that he would take too long on the ball with it at his feet. His decision-making. Execution of distribution is vital and he is good (we've seen vs Horvath) but sometimes his diagonal is too slow and the opposition is on the wing-back.

I think he has the game to push elite level but he isn't there yet & he needs to keep being challenged.

These are just small things. Another is Professionalism. Not getting caught up with the opposition like vs Stoke. We can't say we didn't see something like that coming.

If we get promoted. Outside of signing the loanees, getting Brice and Brennan to sign new contracts is vital.

Playing a perfectly weighted through ball from a freekick in their half whilst your entire team is waiting for the ball in. Only Samba would try that, and would have been amazing if we had scored from it.

I think Samba technically came closest to scoring for us in the second half too.

Magic player. He can be the difference for us in the playoffs.

He’s like the Championship equivalent of Ederson with that left-footed range of passing.

Samba at fault for the goal? He was in a bit of no man's land.

What I do remember though is decent handling overall and a few quick boots out in the first half that couldn't have been any more accurate. They put us in some great positions.

Nature of the beast though being a keeper, you tend to be remembered for the iffy stuff.

How has Samba not had an international call up from Congo? Is he holding out for France? Loris is 35 now...
