Otis might be the same as me on this, but when our children were born, the midwife would say something to the effect that "father will be leaving now". And that was it. Mind you, gave me a free afternoon to watch the Test match, so all was not lost.

I think VP, you are mid-70s.
That would be 5 years older than me.
Mrs S the first and me had our 2 children 1985 and 86.
I was obliged to be there both times.
The first time, the pain was unbearable as the now ex dug her manicured finger nails deep into the back of my hand for some reason.
Blood flowed, but sympathy got I none.
Being there wasn’t all it is cracked up to be.
Much better to be outside, smoking a big cigar, looking anxious.

Our first was 1969 and second 1972. I wasn't that bothered and Mrs was happy to be on her own. In those days the mothers had ten days in hospital to recover and have help with the new child.

My first was in 1972 and the second in 1976.
I was present for both births and it was a wonderful experience.
In answer to the Captains query I have turned 80 this year and I believe Valspoodle will be following me very soon.

Oh and my daughter was born in 2013, and I saw the whole gory thing.

When Mrs S No.2 was giving birth to our daugther (my 3rd and final child before the snips)
the umbilical cord was around the baby's neck.
Mrs S 2 had to be rushed into theatre to have an emergency caesarian.
I was taken in as well and positioned head end of the green screening.
As I am quite tall, and the screen wasn't of sufficient height, I had a great view as the surgeon sliced across Mrs S No.2's stomach, throught the skin and adipose tissue and muscle wall.
I watched, wide eyed as the retractor was positioned and cranked wide open, parting the edges of the cut to expose intestines and other bits and bobs of her internal organs.
I watched, goggle eyed as the surgeon physically moved organs around to expose the womb , cut through the womb wall and gently but firmly ease our daughter into the world.
I watched with bated breath, while the cord was unwound, clamped and as invited by the mid-wife I took the scissors and cut the cord.
I waited for daughter's airway to be cleared and for her to snatch her first breath as a tiny, unique new person.
And I shed tears of pure joy as she filled her lungs and started to bawl at a volume that seemed incongruous to come from such a tiny person.
Thankfully, I was helped out of theatre and didn't have to watch as Mrs S No.2's insides were stitched, replaced in their rightful positions and the C section was closed.
As a psychopath I was able to watch with a detached interest.
As a new father I basked in a sense of wonder and marvelled at the workings of the human body, and the skill and dedication of the medics who saved daughter's life, and made sure Mrs S No.2 was put back together.

My first was 2002 (Golden Jubilee year hence middle name is Elizabeth) 14 hours down City hospital before she put in an appearance, it was a difficult birth so I left the room to leave it to the experts

Second in 06 was an emergency C section

I can say, with all honesty, that Forest and this forum help to keep me young.

Yes ! The one thing I look at on the internet and I agree wholeheartedly. I never get tired of sport of all types; you can never tell just what the outcome will be.

The garden and allotment also keep me thinking and planning and never standing still, things keep growing whether you like it or not and you're always planning ahead.

You finally put a TV in the bedroom then?

Since he has come back in to the side (last 5 games), he has kept 3 clean sheets. The two goals he has conceded was in a 4-1 away win consolation goal and a penalty that shouldn't have been a penalty. Add in to that he is like having an extra outfield player back there with his ability to distribute the ball. Samba is the clear number one at this club.

Did he actually get out of his deckchair last night?
Didn't have a save to make, and I thought that he could have quite easily spent most of the game talking to the fans instead of playing.
