Ben Brereton Díaz

To think about 4 years ago I was shot down in flames for questioning the decision to sell him...
He's still only had 1 good season in the 4 since he left. It's not exactly a ringing endorsement that he will be amazing.

He's still young though so has time on his hands.

Looks to be staying put. So basically we're hoping he fires Blackburn to promotion and signs a new deal and then moves a year later for £25m.

More likely he'll sign a precontract with someone and we'll get nothing. Hope someone takes the punt in the next hour or so - half wish we were but well, were frying bigger fish!

Is it true some Chillean fans noticed on Football Manager that he was eligible for Chile and started a national campaign to get him selected?!

Apparently so. I think it comes from his mum having Citizenship?

I have watched him quite a bit recently and he seems to have come on leaps and bounds as a player. If we had the opportunity to bring him back in January, I'd do it. Tactically he is a fit either out wide or through the middle, is strong with decent pace and can move the team forward on the counter. Throw in that if we do go down, he is a known 20 goal a season striker in the Championship... Nobody in that league is stopping a front 3 of MGW, Johnson and Brereton with Yates, LOB, Williams, Toff, McKenna, Worrall etc in the team too.

Agree - his 'flash in the pan season' was not that. I was up for him coming back in the summer too.

I was hesitant purely because of that, but his good form has continued. He is only 23, 24 in April so he is still a young lad who I don't doubt would improve under Cooper.

The numbers speak for themselves but the only reason I am not keen is whenever I watch him play he looks well off it, especially technically.

Could just be bad luck and watching him in the wrong games.

It feels like his agent is working overtime to try and get him a move though, he has been linked with every club under the sun for the past 12 months and have they even had a bid?

Can't Play Left-Back
I don't think he plays as a central striker, more of a wide forward. He's got some decent attributes: strong (when he wants to be), quick, direct, can finish. But he can't play with his back to goal, has an horrendous first touch, not skillful, and falls over way too much. Basically, put the ball in front of him and let him run onto it he's a threat. Keep him with his back to goal and don't let him have space to run at you, he's nullified. I think Prem defenders would have him in their pockets. In the Championship though he's pretty effective. I think he's a slightly more refined, better version of Ollie Burke. Having said all that, he's bound to rip us apart in the League Cup 4th Round!

Exactly mate, the step up is massive. You need to have an all round game to thrive in the Prem.

You could be describing Johnson in that post, and he has struggled to make the step up.

Personally it's a no from me, not because he may not make the step up, but we have enough players who have only played at that level we need players we know can play at this level.

If we were a Palace I'd be up for it as he'd have the time to develop in the Prem at his own pace rather than us needing him to hit the ground running.

A point where Forest have failed many times over the years is putting square pegs in round holes. If the plan going forward was to play two wide forwards with a false 9 (like the Brentford game) I'd take Brereton over Dennis every day of the week. If we are asking him to play the Keinan Davis role, he obviously isn't going to be a fit.

Not sure I agree with the comments about Prem defenders would have him in their pockets, he is big, quick and direct. Three things no defender likes coming up against. We have seen players like Burke come up with those attributes and fail, likewise Antonio stepped up and has been very good.
