Alfa Semedo

Re: Alfa Semedo [BUPA]

Colback staying put at Newcastle - all is forgiven and the slate is wiped clean.
Allegedly.

If Colback is out of the picture, you need at least two more quality midfielders (besides Silva I mean). Bridcutt, Watson, Guedioura are or should be out of the picture, that leaves just with Yacob, Silva, Yates. You need two more. Maybe that explains Semedo.

Re: Alfa Semedo [BUPA]

I am beginning to think Alfs theory of foreign names is a goer. If we announce Ryan Yateseo people may lose their shit

It's another signing I have no clue about so can't assess the player but as GBG says is an odd one.

Compare the reaction to this & Silva's signings with Sammy Ameobi and that tells you all you need to know IMO.

Will we have to shell out for him?

He’ll go to WBA . I can see it now in the first game of the season where we have a soft 5 minutes and he megs benny, dictates the tempo of the game and despite carrying an injury that would see anyone else have a dip in form he soldiers on to poach the winner in a goalmouth scramble.

I heard he was sent back from Rangers early because of his use of Fowl language

We've got a manager in now who is going to play a whole different brand of football to what MON was. I think it will be interesting to see how players like Yates will fare in a quicker, passing set up. Not to mention they will actually be coached now. Sabri looks very hands on. Not sure many players really shone under MON.

Re: Alfa Semedo [BUPA]

Which was a joke. He did a very good job last season.

Only game he suffered in was the 4-3-3 v Villa where the whole team seemed to struggle with roles off the ball.

Going by Dundee only him, Figgy and Lolley played 73 minutes which means he is doing something right again. And you can read into how he looked at players because he has limited time.

Both Tiago and Alfa look to not mind contact too so no luxury players. All for going to this market for the quality of player that is more cost effective.

We could look to get Lewis Baker & Ovie Ejaria on loan from Prem teams with some Champ experience but wonder what their salaries are and do they look to cover the deficiencies of Joao & Tiago in terms of size and aerial competitives that Semedo & Yates can bring ? Not sure.

Yates is underrated for me, he’s got things you can’t teach, if he improves his passing and the technical side he’s going to be a good player. Is he good enough to carry our midfield? No but who is in our team? Nobody really

Agreed mate. Looking forward to his progression this season.

Yup. At 21 he's done a cracking job coming into the side from nowhere.

I reckon it's gonna be at least another season or two before he's the more rounded player he needs to be, but I think he'll evolve into a midfield mainstay given the chance.

I'd probably take a bullet for shit-good, after only two pre-season games...

Foreign obviously doesn't mean good but the mystery box is a little more exciting and I think there's a better chance of getting value when compared to home grown players. We mostly buck that trend because all our foreign signings turn out shit (carv and milo excepted) and we've been a little spoiled/fortunate with lolley, Antonio, Britt.

Can't we just be excited for a few weeks then slag them all off after 15 minutes of the first game of the season, when they don't score a hat trick? Why would you want to deprive us of that?

If you get Semedo, you will have brought in two Portugueuse players none of which is a Mendes client.

Alfa by name, Alfa by nature?

Will he spend most of the season injured but with the odd world class performance thrown in?

Like Figueiredo.

I seem to remember last summer Vukcevic wasn't Mendes' client but he was trying to push him to us. Now all of a sudden he is a Mendes client.
