It was only a few weeks ago there was quite a few of us here thinking AM would be getting game time in the Prem this season. Steve Cooper also thinks highly of him. Getting regular game time at Wednesday is just what he needs and will be brilliant for his development.
For our visiting Owl, you’ll be getting someone who is technically excellent, quick feet and very direct. His end product has sometimes been a bit hit and miss but he’s never really had a run of games.
Will be watching with interest and hope you and him have a great season.

I was going to say the same thing.

But then I remembered I once said something similar about Matty Cash - and Wing-Backs these days seem to be attackers who try to learn how to defend on the job (whereas it used to be the other way around), so guess we'll have to wait and see.
You are right Congs (as always!!) but on that front Cash had always shown a hint of the defensive workrate, robustness and tackling ability that developed in him with the switch. I've not seen any suggestion at all that Alex has any of those, but as you say football is a funny game....

I'd have thought there was as much if not more chance of Mighten making a switch to secondary striker than wingback. He's more about running in behind than defending. Be interesting to see how he's used...

Hasn’t he been playing as a wing back in the Notts & Grimsby games?
Sure - but to be blunt about it, those sides didn't have much in the way of attacking threats - so his almost complete lack of defending wasn't a significant issue as the CBs could mop up.

Can't see him ever being used in that role in a game where the sides are more evenly matched.

Couldn't agree more.

At 20 years old he's still a ton of developing to do, both physically and in learning the game. A season loan getting regular football against lesser opposition is exactly what he needs at this stage of his career.

Possibly a Champ loan next year and then assess where he is.

If things go well for him and the club, then who knows? Another year with us but in the championship.

For the record he's starting for us tonight in the Pizza Cup at Bradford, and by the looks of things he's lining up out wide on the left hand side.

Looking forward to seeing how he gets on. Personally I think that, given a bit of time to settle and get up to speed, he'll tare that league a new one.

That's where you want him!

How's Iorfa doing for you? Thought he had real potential when he first broke through fir Wolves - one of the few I've seen handle Antonio (iirc)

So
Saw that earlier, pleased to see he sees him in the front line and not as a wingback.

Really good move for Mighten.

A good club, just up the road, so it's a superb opportunity to get stuck in a show what he can do.

Noticed he was on the bench for the Wendies yesterday and wasn't used as a sub....

Not sure what that is about, but its L1 FFS surely he can kick the door down at that level??

Still early days but Owls fans haven't been a fan of his so far, and that's putting it lightly. Here's their managers take

“You have to remember, over the course of his career, he hasn't had many minutes, he's come here to come and get some match minutes and I was pleased for him. We saw how quick his feet can be in tight situations and what he can do for us.

“Both he and Mallik can feel pleased with their work and getting match minutes under the belt. With the games, two games a week we have coming up, hopefully those match minutes can give them that edge they need.

“When they come from their clubs, they're used to working in a certain way,” Moore said. “We're trying to get him moments coming from outside and inside the pitch in terms of his natural position. He can do it.

“It's also conforming to shapes and patterns we want to put in place and learning them. I think that has been the big thing for Alex.

“It's also about the minutes and volume of training. All these things go hand in hand but again I've seen signs from him that were good, that probably weren't there a couple of weeks ago. That, for me, is something to be encouraged about.”

Surprisingly detailed critique from a manager.
Everything he says is right, but of course from our perspective its time on the pitch that we want not bloody patterns in training sessions.
Lets hope the touch paper is lit soon-I want to see lots of YouTube vids of him ripping defenders to shreds.

Looking at the Sheffield Wednesday fans comments, seems like his loan spell is not going well at all unfortunately,

They won 3-0 and are really quite vocal about him and not in a good way

Similar to some of our fans writing off the likes of Awoniyi after a handful of games.
To be fair to the Wednesday fans, we've had plenty of young players on loan from the Prem who were massively disappointing. Had some good ones but they were mostly shit. When they're not your own players and they don't make an instant impact, then it does get frustrating when a manager perseveres with them because you're not developing them for your own club. Hopefully, he'll get better but he should've had a year out on loan last year. With injuries last season too, Mighten's probably a year behind where we hoped he would be. To be honest, my attitude with young players is get them established as professionals in the top 4 leagues so they can have a career. So many young players don't make it in the game at all. If they turn out to be good enough for us - or too good and sold for big money - then brilliant.

I am surprised he hasn't made a better fist of it in League One but there is quite a rawness about him. Perhaps he just doesn't fit very well in to their system and maybe a different move in January might be a better one for him.

Like some are saying, he probably should've been on loan somewhere second half of last season and also missed quite a lot through injury.

If it doesn't eventually work out for him at Hillsborough by January, the club should try and get him under Cloughie's wing at Mansfield. If he can find his form there, Alex will help push them over the line.

Mighten has some talent in his ability to move quick, have fast feet, but sadly he seems to lacking in the key area of football brain.
I haven't yet seen him really deliver on the potential that was there at 17,
There are some things you can coach, and the trainers can work in his musculature and physique, but if a person hasn't got that footballing brain instinctively, it is a really tough call as to whether it can be taught.
He reminds me so much of Steve Burke, with whom I played on the cricket field on Lambley Lane when we were kids.
He had bags of speed, control and fancy footwork, but he never quite made it in the end.
