Never seen Diallo play or even heard of him before now. I was the same when Samba signed though so hopefully Diallo turns out the same!

Not that there is anything wrong with this, we now have more black players in our first team squad than white. Looking at first team profiles on website, we have 14 black and 13 white. Benelouane was a tricky one, if left him in the grey zone, it would be even. like I say nothing wrong with that just an observation.
Yeah I've tried to ignore this, but I can't. Why make the observation? I don't think I've ever watched football or anything non football and counted the different skin colours, I just see Players. You've made yourself look like a right flump here. Nothing meant by it, just an observation

Not that it matters but I've just been through the profiles on the OS and we have a massive imbalance in terms of eye colour.

We have only 7 players with blue eyes and a staggering 19 with brown eyes! If this imbalance doesn't explain our poor form, I don't know what does.

The Fuhrer will be turning in his grave!

I was looking at a game on TV the other day and the camera roved over the subs sitting in their socially distanced seats in the stand and I saw the 'keeper relaxing in his pristine kit and possibly wondering if he was going to get a league game this season, when I read of us signing a third potential first team keeper.

Strange times; ours is not to reason why... (I won't finish that quotation!)

I’m fine with Smith. Seeing as we have to live within FFP and we have other areas of the pitch badly in need of attention, this seems wholly unnecessary

You should have just said in the first place that having three goalkeepers is an unnecessary indulgance. I mistakenly thought it was because you don't rate this lad.

I neither rate him or don't rate him seeing as I had never heard of him until yesterday!

His CV isn't great though is it.

He CV isn't great though is it.

If we've signed him to compete with Smith for a place on the bench, I don't know how impressive a CV you'd expect from a player for that role.

Being a Clairefontaine graduate isn't a bad CV inclusion, despite him spending most of his career at the level we've been at for all but three of the last twenty years.

It doesn't matter if the cat is black is black or white, so long as it catches mice!!

I think that sums the sentiment every fan shares whenever we sign a player.

I've no complaints about this signing - I like everyone cannot say how good or bad he is. But I agree with the principle, we should have extra cover in goal.

That said I'm really puzzled at how we let Pantilimmon go or got dropped.

Ok plan A last year was for Muric to take over in goal from Pants. He failed, so fair enough dropped, let go.
We signed Brice, ok good idea too, he eased into the role vacated by the flailing Muric.
But what was so wrong about Pants? Was he that bad the season before? I don't think so.
But again to be fair to the manager, it's not how many wonderful saves you make and Pants had quite a number of those. Rather it's how you do your bread and butter.
But ok, maybe Sabri wanted a different keeper. But why freeze out Pants totally?
Doesn't make any sense. Look he like Diallo is his nation's keeper (are both No 1s there?
So why not just keep Pants as No 2 to Brice? Then at the final finish when Samba was injured, Pants with his experience I think would have been btter than Smith.
So why not just keep him?

Why freeze him out, creating the vacancy and then go buy Diallo?
Last year didn't we have something like 4-5 keepers on our books? And 2 of them, Pants and Muric were just a waste of money in those circumstances.
Then we had to sell off Steele and that Bulgarian kid.

There kind of buying/loaning/selling doesn't at all look like good business.
In real life, if you do this kind of things you will get a dressing down, if not a demotion or the sack itself.

I'm not saying Sabri is at fault here totally. But he does bear some blame, in not utilizing Pants more.
But the bulk of the blame goes to the person suggesting, approving and then buying. Shows a lack of foresight.

I know a club should have a permanent No 1 in goal and that look's Brice job at the moment, but in the same vein, Diallo should be given the gig in a few games.
Say a home game with Rotherham or a similar team (at home). That should prepare him and give him a taste of how the team plays for real but more importantly, should Brice become unavailable for some reason, he can easily slip into the role with some experience under his belt.
I felt Smith was kinda not ready when called in for those crucial games last year.
We should not make the same mistake again.

Pantilimon was probably our highest earner, that was the biggest problem with keeping him here. He was a decent keeper but we probably weren't getting value for money, hence he was moved on.

This lad is a) on a free, so we haven't paid for him (probably), and b) will not be on anything like the same wage as Pantilimon.
He is now a Forest player: welcome to the fold.
I know nothing about him.
I'll wait and see if he gets any game time, and how he performs in that game time before I am able to form a judgement as to where he ranks in the pecking order.

Ok fair enough, but that still doesn't answer the key question for last season, why wasn't he even a chance to be No 2?
And if you at Carvalho's situation, isn't it similar, record signing but again, no place available for him and underutilized if chosen as a sub
So much so, he's only given liek 20-30 minutes to prove himself. Unable to do so, back to bench or frozen out from the match day squad.

As interesting as Mighten, Brennan and others are, but to be ahead of Carvalho, doesn't make sense.

Pantilimon probably earned more than double Diallo and Smith combined. Made no sense to keep him here if he’s not number one.

Carvalho will be on a modest wage so there’s no urgency to bin him off.

An observation it might be but it's a completely pointless one that comes across as slightly racist

In fairness, if my work is anything to go by, we’re actually being trained to notice differences like that now.

All very counterintuitive, and not something I agree with woth, but the world is-a-changing!

Pants was, well, pants. No loss there as far as I'm concerned. Also, without trying to be all "right on" and PC, I'd have thought we'd have been used to black players by now, it's certainly not the first thing I think when I see a new or potential signing.

Not ANOTHER bloody goalkeeper........we'll have 11 defenders in the team soon. We might, therefore, need to re-sign Greg Halford !!

I agree with this. Freezing Pantillimon out of the club to save on wages makes no sense as we have almost certainly paid off most of the remains of his contract. Obviously we don't know what the new keeper is like but Pantillimon was certainly better than Smith .

Whichever way you cut it, we don't need 3 senior keepers clogging up the already bloated wage bill. There's always the option of an emergency gk loan should injury strike.

Just seems like SL signing one of his old mates for the sake of it. I assume we'll now be looking to sell Smith as he ain't going to stick around as 3rd choice.

Anyways it was more an observation than anything.
But we really gotta stop making these kind of mistakes. Buying players then not playing them.
If we did a count it's probably in the dozens..

An emergency loan couldn’t be from the EPL because they don’t allow it. Plus emergency loans of keepers are only permitted if all the professional keepers at a club are injured/suspended etc and so unavailable, and only for 7 days at a time. Leeds had a similar situation a couple of seasons ago and had to play a youngster in goal.
