23/24 Premier League Pre-Season Thread

Nottingham's dirty secret
The way Hwang never stops closing down and putting the defence under pressure, I'd give him a chance this season from the bench. He could cause a few teams into errors.

Dennis never shows any of that determination.

Strange cuz I remember GBG saying he was lazy & put no effort in at Oly.

Obviously got a big point to prove now. Good to see.

I know it's probably too soon to be a concern but I was kinda hoping we might work on keeping possession more.
Handing over the majority of possession to a team that's just been promoted from the National League is a slight worry.
Not really, it's half academy, 1/3 never played and 1/3 Prem. These games are about fitness, and nothing to worry about at all.

Yates and Awoniyi looked a class above and Hwang took his goal well looking to force his way into the squad with his effort. Other than that it was your typical friendly.

Going off of that evidence, we'll continue sacrificing possession next season with a low block away. Obviously it's too early to confirm that assertion however, but the other friendlies will be interesting.

I'm genuinly intigued as to what you were expecting from the first pre-season run-out which featured two entirely seperate line-ups and included a load of fringe players and recent academy lads?

Good spelling.

You're right, I got what I expected.

First Team Squad
My lad loved it for his first game and that's what mattered to me ultimately today.

As a game it wasn't great but didn't expect much due to the time and opposition. No standout performances imo, especially from last year's squad but could see a few players who are the fringes trying and wanting to prove they should be part of the squad.

Just walking back to the station, reading the forum on the way, and was going to post exactly these points, but you beat me to it Bryan!

I was quite low down at the front of the Haydn Green stand, so Dennis was on the far half of the pitch from me, but I still couldn’t see much effort from him.

So…Omar. Relegation this year? 😉
Didn't bother watching. Friendlies generally are a waste of time (to watch i mean) and this was just a glorified training session. The majority of the players who turned out for us today will never get near a competitive match-day squad for us so there's not a lot you can really take from it.
