Lads a big talent by most accounts, had a failed loan in Spain second half of last season but if he comes here and gets back on track it could be a top signing, tall defensive mid with a big engine to go alongside Silva's creativity.

I really don't understand the basis for this. You can throw a million examples around of players from abroad who did or didn't make it along with British players from the championship who did or didn't make it. If you have abit of something about you, you will do fine. And anyway our starting line up looks to be

Pants - Played in England for a number of years, 1 1/2 years experience champ level.
Darikwa - Numerous years at champ level.
Robinson - Numerous years at champ level.
Milo - 1/2 a season of experience, but was the best centre half we had when he walked through the door.
Fig - Has he been here 2 seasons now?
Pep - Numerous years.
Silva - None
Lolley - Numerous years.
Ameobi - Numerous years.
Carvallo - 1 year.
Grabben - Numerous years.

So out of a starting 11 our best centre back has 1/2 a year of experience here, Silva has none and Carvallo has 1....

Not hard to understand really.

Keep making the same mistakes in signing the same kinds of players = 2 decades out the big league.

From your list

Pants - crap
Darikwa - crap
Robinson - brain dead
Milo - done ok
Fig - looked good but injured, alot
Pep - brain dead liability
Silva - see paragraph below
Lolley - decent
Ameobi - crap
Carvallo - decent
Grabben - expensive

All the same types of players we have continually gone with. Either injuried, poor discipline or just shit with the odd exception. We usually end up selling the exception in the end.

Every player the Greeks have brought in from abroad has been slow as f*** and wants two weeks on the ball, the only exception is Carvo who cost an eye watering 13 million unless he helps get up.

For every Carvo theres players like Lahm Bouchalakis Dias and players of that ilk that have been crap, pure and simply crap.

And who says Silva is any good? He could be our 6 monthly player we seem to sign as a favour for an agent and never see again bar the picture with dick fingers... you know one player is coming in this summer like that, it's just hard to guess at this point who it is.

I can't be arsed to do the digging, but it would be interesting to see starting 11's of teams promoted over the last few years and how much promotion experience they have.
I never mentioned promotion experience

So who would you bring in that meets your criteria?

Generally I agree with Barry.

I do think we can afford to gamble on cheap imports if they're back by proven players.

So for example, Colback + Silva + Semedo looks a nice trio to add to compliment the likes of Yacob & Yates. You've you're proven man in Colback, you're cheap gambles in Silva & Semedo, and decent lads already here who know the score. The whole shebang won't break the bank either, and there's potential to grow & develop players too.

It's just about balance, and last year we were way to guilty at siging only gambles who didn't know the league (e.g. Dias, Soudani & Gonch covering the wings).

No right way or wrong way, but Bazza's right our more recent way has been a bit to lobsided like my cock.

Clearly this scouting lark is a piece of piss because it seems you can pick up good championship players for peanuts.

And I will happily;y bet over the past 20 years we have brought twice as many British players who have experience in the league over lads from abroad, but it only seems the foreign lads are tarred with the brush of holding us back.

Like I say, good players are good players no matter where they come from or how many games they have played at this level. The problem Forest have had for the past 20 years is they have been signing players who were once good at the tail end of their careers hoping to catch lightning in a bottle or players who just weren't good enough in the first place.

Again I didnt say that.

What I said is we have been doing it wrong for 2 decades and continuing to do it wrong and expecting a different outcome is daft.

Problem with Kasami, Gonch, Dias and the like is they couldn't get up again when knocked down. They weren't used to it.

These 2 new Portuguese fit a different profile.

Problem with Kasami,

Kin hell forgot about that clown... now he should have at least had an inkling about the speed of the game here, wanted two weeks to play a 10 yard pass.

OK, we got Rúben Semedo, you'll get Alfa Semedo, now EM has to make a move for Nélson Semedo.

After we finish with the Semedos, we'll start on the Silvas. You made a start but there's a lot of work to be done.

Well what other option are there? And like I say, the past 2 decades of failure isn't because we have brought in cheap foreign players, it is because we haven't brought players who are good enough. Time will tell is Silva or any of those other lads linked are good enough, but I wouldn't say any fit the 'profile' of what we have been doing for the past 20 years.

And despite however crap some of these players have been, since the Greeks have taken over, we have finished higher in the league every season which would indicate the quality of players brought in has gone up.

Did he though? She was probably naked, legs akimbo and he dallied to the point that she fell asleep and in his panic he fell off the bed.

The bottom line is what matters.

There is no perfect recruitment, but it’s improved since the Greeks came in. Silva may or may not work out, but he is the type of player that we need - a box to box midfield dynamo.

Cutting to the chase, we finished in the top ten last season. We only need another incremental step up in squad quality from this summer’s recruitment to be challenging for the top six.

It improved in line with us spending money, had we not spent as much last season the positional increase would undoubtedly of been much less.

It's very easy to waste money as we've seen in the past 20 years.

Last time we made the Championship playoffs, we had an academy player in midfield who finished as our top scorer.

A French defensive midfielder who cost around £300k

A Polish attacking midfielder who cost around £1m

An actual captain/leader in midfield who knew the Championship, that cost £750k.

A solid back 4 that was never rotated other than the problematic left-back position. Morgan, Chambers, Gunter.

A dependable goalkeeper in those days who exuded confidence.

And a big money signing who was the striker expected to score goals.

If you look at our squad these days, it’s not too far away from the above in all honesty. I would like a really solid goalkeeper, left back and a couple more strikers.

We’ve got a natural midfield leader in Yacob who knows the Championship. If I were Lamouchi I’d make him club captain for this season. I’m sure the other players would respect and go along with that too. We’ve got a creative midfielder, we’ve got a big money signing to get the goals. We perhaps need to find another priceless McGugan who can pop up with important match winning/match saving goals from midfield. We need to establish a solid back 4 that is very rarely changed. And we need a goalkeeper that the players get huge confidence from when they look back.
