I must admit I was excited when we signed Larry Lloyd on loan from Coventry, and just as excited when Kenny Burns signed from Birmingham. But the Shilton signing was off the charts as far as I was concerned.

Looking back with hindsight... I shoulda got excited when we signed Ian Bowyer.
I felt Ian Bowyer was a decent player even before Brian Clough came to Forest,Rocka (he always had an
eye for a goal).
However,I think the arrival of Cloughie saved his career from drifting (along with other established players like Robbo and Martin O’Neill).

Absolutely, Cloughie.

Bit of a weird one, and not my first, but I remember being absolutely delighted when we signed David Friio and Neil Harris in the season we got relegated to L1. They had both done really well for both Plymouth and Millwall respectively and I thought they'd save us that season. How wrong I was.

The first player I really remember getting excited about when I was a kid was PVH who had an amazing scoring record at Celtic. If you look at him from a purely goal-scoring pov then you can't really argue he underachieved. It's just the other-stuff he's remembered for which let him down...
