When was your first time?

When was the first time you got excited about a player joining Forest?

My first time was when Peter Shilton signed for us.

I'd seen alot of Shilton playing for Stoke City at the Victoria Ground back in the mid 70s
And not forgetting of course I'd seen him on the tv as he was an England international.
In my opinion, at that moment in time Shiltz was the best in the world.

As a child I was adamant that Marlon King was going to the second coming. I remember constantly refreshing Teletext for the latest updates.

How wrong I was...

I think it was how I dealt with the loss of Marlon Harewood a few days earlier.

I too thought Marlon King was going to be brilliant. To be fair he had been for Gillingham at the City Ground.

First one I probably got excited about was Bryan Roy as I'd seen him play at the World Cup. I'd have only been 9 or so though.

Remember thinking Bryan Roy was a huge deal when he signed. Him and Stan were superb that year too. Roy wore 22 (only player and number I ever had) and Lotte boots (green logo) IIRC. Glorious season. Bohenian was another standout that year. I also got my first kiss wearing the said Roy shirt. Holy cow I'd pay to return to that summer lol

King Joe was, quite literally, an unbelievable signing for us Gary. We paid a record fee, £65k, but he was Arsenal's top goalscorer at the time (he'd scored 90-odd goals in 150-odd games). It's an understatement to say he certainly lived up to expectations. A top, top player.

Shilton for me as well,Rocka-he was the first genuine ’superstar’ we had signed (if you accept ‘Slim Jim’ Baxter
was well past his best when he signed for Forest).
The Shilton signing (although criticised by some for being too expensive at £270,000) showed that Forest
meant business and allowed Brian Clough to eventually achieve his ‘Holy Grail’ of the European Cup.

Times i've been excited:

2007 - Neil Lennon from Celtic - Thought he'd take us to the next level given his pedigree
2010 - Robbie Findley from Real Salt Lake - Wasn't the only one to get overzealous on the YouTube highlights
2014 - Britt Assombalonga from Peterborough - He actually did allright
2018 - Carvalho, Dias and Goncalves
2022 - Lingard - Arrived to much fanfare
2022 - Gibbs-White - Would say this one had me most excited
2023 - Danilo
2023 - Sangare

When I got home from school and saw on the telly news that Forest had signed a £1m player, well, that was certainly exciting!

Unfortunately Joe was before my time Frank, but my dad was a massive fan.

Same here Chris... I remember hearing it on Radio One at work, every hour on the news.

Webb seen him at Maine Rd in 84-85 against City scored twice, you could tell he was warm

I'm still here Crewton
Teddy Sherringham. I just loved how he played the game, such a pity he didn't stay longer.
No-one really in recent years as I've usually no idea who they are or if I did know them they more often than not turn out like Andy Cole.
Seeing Sangare excited me, I still can't believe we've got him.

Not properly replacing Teddy was the beginning of the end for Cloughie sadly

Doubt we'd have gone down that season had he stayed
