When was your first time?

Another vote for Collymore. There were some games where he was like Roy of The Rovers - I'm sure there was one where he came on, scored a cracker after a great run, then got sent off a few minutes later. Frank Clark deserves more recognition in our history.

Sadly I also remember the hype about Andrea Silenzi.

Kenny Burns. Watched him up front with TF for Birmingham on Match of the Day (2nd highlight of a Saturday night after Starsky & Hutch). Remember thinking Cloughie wasn't all that when he stuck him in defence.

Bolton at home, we won 3-2. I think he was coming back from injury. He came on, scored the winner, elbowed a Bolton player in the face and got sent off, all in about 5 minutes.

I've been a fan since 1988 but I can't remember being excited about a signing really until Bryan Roy in 1994. It was a huge marquee signing for us at the time and I remember running to my mates house when it came through on Teletext, those were the days!

I’m sure is was against Sheff Utd. He came on after a suspension, Frank Clark got him on in the second half scored soon after coming on with an incredible run from half way line..yep sent off seconds after lol

Stan, if you’re reading this (you never know) I’d love his view on that game lol.

It is something of an open secret that Stan Collymore is actually a member of this forum.

His username is @Number10

Difficult one to answer, I started going in 86/86 but until the early 90's there was never really any speculation about potential signings, they just rocked up and it was done as far as I remember. I guess it would have to be Collymore, who I knew we were linkied with in Cloughies last season and Frank Clarke managed to get him for 2m. Bryan Roy was BIG news, just had a great world cup with Holland too. These days kids know before the player does!

Harry Arter was also a big deal!
Yeah, I was thinking similar (having first gone to a game in 83/84 and already been a Forest fan a bit before that, although I called our returned-from-Man United striker Garry Birkles apparently back then). I don't think there was so much speculation, so we got to know the players more after they had signed (plus Forest used to sign plenty of players from lower leagues and bring through youth players etc).

Also though at that kind of primary school age I didn't watch Central News much yet or read the Evening Post or listen to Radio Nottingham, and I'm not sure Ceefax was big on transfer rumours so much at that stage.

So I'd say the first one might have been Icelandic Player of the Year Toddi Orlygsson! I did see the announcement of his signing on Central News, accompanied by a nice goal or two he'd scored running through from midfield if I remember correctly. As it turned out he ended as more of a bit part player for Forest (but I think he really liked the club and the style of play of the team if I remember his comments correctly), though he had his moments, like doing some impressive flick over a Liverpool player's head not long after he'd signed, or running down the wing and assisting Teddy Sheringham vs Villa a couple of seasons later. He did better and was more of a key player for Stoke though, and played his part in Stoke's win at the City Ground in 93/94!

I remember being keen on the signing of Gary Megson! I'd seen him play for Wednesday and was very impressed.

Johnny Metgod, anyone who'd played for Real Madrid.

John Sheridan too, what a good player he was. Gutted we'd missed out on McAllister though, it was obvious he was quality.

After that it was Bryan Roy.

Me too. I hoped Slim Jim would make us invincible.
