So, no sour-grapes there then, eh, 'Arry?

Everyone knows the FA are rather out of touch with the modern game, but Redknapp would be little better than Roy Hodgson.

What's old 'Arry ever won? His mates in the media have got him most of his jobs and he's still tainted by allegations of corruption.

Fa cup with portsmouth for one, took spurs to 4th after taking over when they were bottom 3 and took them through a tough group stage beating inter etc also key man behind bales development amongst others. Is limited though tsctically and has wasted a lot of money and players careers in the past. Would be better then roy probably still.

I've actually read a few extracts from his book and it's quite interesting actually. At the time he denied being the front runner for the England job but admits now that he thought the job was as good as his.

An interesting point that he was offered a large sum of money to become manager of Ukraine but decided to take over as QPR boss instead. That shows he does love football and would rather manage a club on a weekly basis for less money than to sit around with a load of suits drinking tea in a Ukrainian board room.

But 'Arry would be a better England manager than Woy because he has passion, and he's English, and his mates in the London media think he'd be, you know, triffic.

Can't fault his longevity in a difficult profession, and his Teflon nature of avoiding tax related allegations, but he'd be no better than Graham Taylor/Steve McLaren/Kevin Keegan as England manager.

The F.A would of had to pay in excess of £14m to take him from Tottenham and appoint him as England manager, which they weren't willing to pay obviously.

What a bitter envious loser he is. Probably doesn't realise you can't just buy a shed load of expensive players on massive wages in international football.
I'm not a great fan of the FA, but it was an excellent decision not to give 'Arry the England job. We'd have been out the world cup already if he'd been in charge.

'Well I don't understand my old mate [newspaper journalist], ya know, the lads av been triffic, ya know, I just dont understand it, the lads av been triffic, done everthing we could av. You know the FA wouldn't let me bring in any of my signings and that's were it went wrong, no no but the lads ave been triffic. Tactics? What are they then?'.
Cue fifteen page pull out in the paper about what wonderful manager Arry is.

Useless overrated twonk.

What a sore loser. If those extracts are anything to go by his book sounds f***ing rubbish.

I also think Roy Hodgson has done a reasonable job with the hand he has been given. Every squad he picks, several players pull out with half-arsed injuries, you can bet if we qualify for the World Cup they will all be fully fit next June though.

More importantly for the FA, and 'Arry is right on this, Roy Hodgson is a safe pair of hands, with vast experience gained around Europe. Can anyone really imagine 'Arry taking on the Inter Milan job, or managing a foreign country (turning down Ukraine for example)? The FA would also view Hodgson as a safe pair of hands in terms of the likelihood (or lack of it) of him having to take time off the job to defend himself in court - they went through all that not too long ago with Venables.

God knows who we get after Hodgson gets hounded out though, probably some time around March 2015.

It's interesting that Brendan Rodgers agreed to be Redknapp's assistant for the Euros if he got the job, with Harry saying that he wanted England to "play with as much technical ambition as Swansea."

As good as that might have been it would've been tough for any manager to implement a style in such a short space of time before the tournament. Hodgson did well enough at the Euros and I think he's done fine since, he's not been able to play his best XI often due to injuries.

I do think his man-management would've made us a bit better than we are under Hodgson but it does come across as sour grapes.

The most worrying thing is trying to think of the next England manager as I can't think of a suitable British candidate, nevermind an English one!

Another part from his autobiography that annoyed me actually was Redknapp confirming that when he was at Tottenham some of the younger players had come to him and asked him to to "pull them from the squad" as they couldn't be bothered with England duty. Is that really what it's come to?

Hang on, how come 'Arry has an autobiography?

I thought he could barely read and write, as he professed in his tax evasion trial?

Maybe his dog wrote it.

Harry would've been a great England manager. The last time we had a proper geezer as manager was Venables and we were shit hot under him. All that's required is for the manager to be a geezer

So what would we need Harry for? Just get Rodgers.

I would have thought Redknapp missed out on the England job because the FA weren't sure he could be relied on not to embarrass them by being the centre of unhelpful stories in the press. He was in Southwark Crown Court the day Capello resigned after all. . Venables, Hoddle and Eriksson all gave the FA nightmares for different reasons in the recent past. Roy Hodgson seemed the man least likely to have skeletons in his closet.

Whatever the reason, Redknapp looks a fool in this story. Hardly makes you wish he had been appointed.
