"Top" Clubs trying to form a super league again?

The English clubs really have no incentive to join as the Premier League is now a super league in all but name. This is a desperate attempt from the big European clubs to keep up.

To be honest there's a wider issue at play here and that's the immense wealth of the Premier League. I don't really know what can be done about it but we're getting to the stage where Europe bar 5/6 clubs basically becomes a development ground before a Premier League team swoops in. It's not good for the long term future of the game but to be honest some of the foreign leagues have not helped themselves over the years.

Give the devil his due, and put simple, the EPL have crafted a fantastic product. Built on heritage, fan culture, stadiums etc. The foreigners love it. And, particularly, foreign investors.

Premier league is more egalitarian than the other leagues my understanding is but it dosen’t mean it’s egalitarian. It’s still got massive issues and if they clobber Citeh than it will only be arsenal, Liverpool and United who benefit.

Premier league is more equal and even with that still has a massive equity problem. If it were business I wouldn’t have a problem I’m quite a capalist. However football clubs are not like buying a phone. Brand loyalty is 99.9% in football. United are locked in now to generations of revenue cause of brand loyalty.

I’m not against any new change to football because it is broken. When will I ever see malmo on the final of a European tournament again?? I looked at the 30 years previous champions league and premier league and the amount of different clubs achieveing any milestone has reduced. Football hasn’t got better in general. As a Forest fan I shouldn’t have to rely on an oil Barron or a state to win the league there should be easier opportunities. That’s my two penneth

Why is the Prem valued so much more than other leagues? We all started from a level playing field thirty years ago.
The competition is itself better. We all have a view about the top 6, but in almost all other leagues there are usually only a couple of leviathans and in some leagues just one. And the remaining competitors are, on the whole, capable of a decent fight.

Then, the game in England is more intense, which lends itself to TV. I can never find rhe source of these stats again but I recall reading some comparison between EPL and the other European Leagues where the attacks, duels, etc were more frequent by like 25 to 30%.

In a word. Money.

The formation of the Premier League bought with it a vast influx of money from the TV deal.

As a result the TV companies which had invested hyped the competition to make it a saleable product in order to profit from their purchase.

Turning the League into the 'best league in the World' was an advertising campaign which worked so successfully that not only did the product become to be viewed as the best competition in the World but it also attracted even more money, which in turn attracted some of the Worlds best players, and more importantly, investors attracted by either the lure of glory in involvement, or the ability to money launder.

At that point it all became a self generating success, generating even more money, more World class players and more investors, billionaires and royal families.

Not just money Erik. It’s also English language and the birthplace of football. So it’s the most authentic ethos of the game and it travels well with the language. Put the investment on top and it’s a no brainer. You can tell language has a lot to do with it as well because it’s no coincidence the premier league is the most popular league in South America but it is North America.

We marketed our product earlier, and we sold into markets with a language barrier advantage.

First mover and faster adoption by the natives. Thats it. The Premier League itself isn't special.

The problem with this European Super League stuff is that it's being done with fans from all over the world in mind, but deglobalisation is happening and that comes with political PR challenges for the rich and so eventually the Chinese, Saudis and Americans will start to do it with clubs from their own countries and the push will be for a world super League.

Maybe a split in the sport might not be a bad thing. Let money making machines do their money making things and let locals go to games without being gauged hundreds of pounds to follow the games. Win win. Not sure I'd miss Man Utd or Arsenal after a while if they left.

Just so they can spend more money on players.

Thus whole football is dying shtick is bollocks, its only the bigger clubs who offer mire than they can spend who are struggling and will benefit.

Stop sending so much f***ing money. The entitlement is crazy.
