Yup, it's one giant clusterfuck. Do you think people will still vote labour in despite them bankrupting the council?
I think that independent candidates could do pretty well in isolation but the problem is they are isolated. We have one locally who politically, I can't stand but he does understand local issues and works hard to sort them.

I’m not sure there’s any sides being picked but the club are absolutely right in highlighting to the City Council who are trying to screw us over that they have other options to consider.
The club is becoming aligned with the Tories, even if that's not the club's intention. It is definitely the Tories intention, and that's for their own political ends and not because they want Forest to do well.

In local politics, if there's no history or culture of one party being active its difficult to break new ground.

Even if there were an appetite for an alternative vote, its still latent unless you have the boots on the ground and some local legacy.

It's easier for some independents to do well because they're entrenched in the local community. But often, for parties they don't have that connection.

Yes, I don't think that's in any doubt. There's no chance we'd have seen a PM there a few years ago. They see an opportunity with what's happened at the city council and now the situation between them and Forest. They're obviously trying to tap into the emotion of it to win hearts and minds

I’m with those who say politics should be kept out of football. The only thing that really matters to me is the club and I’ll applaud any assistance the club gets. Currently the City council are not doing anywhere near enough. We are 5 years down the line and missing ouout year on year.

And football is a target for them. The independent regulator is not about football governance, its a political stunt for votes. It was a literal response to red wall issues.

This includes the 'cultural conservatism' that is aligned with club name, colours, etc. Even the England shirt saga had to have a comment from the PM yesterday. He claims to be a Soton fan, but I doubt he could pick Mick Channon out of an ID Parade.

We'll see more this, for sure.

I have found good and bad in councils of all political persuasions. However, it must be said that that of the councils who have filed notices (the so-called 'bankrupt' councils) there are many Tory controlled ones amongst them, and publicity does seem to evade those cases for some reason.

Nottm City are bound to inflate their financial demands, if the land on which almost 200 apartments are to be built is leased from them rather than owned buy Forest. I had imagined that Forest had bought that tranche of land from Stephensons the Builders Merchants but if that is not the case, and it is leased, it's value either as leasehold or freehold is now significantly inflated because it has planning permission for a big development.

Re the future of the WFCG, the planning authority is Rushcliffe, which is Tory controlled. I don't doubt that would be a factor in letting Sunak pay a visit a to try and boost his popularity. I don't condemn the club for allowing that, but I do wish they'd found a excuse not to make it happen.

Toton? Largely posturing I imagine, and I hope. What has changed recently is Forest being open about the possibility of a move and I can't imagine that they would be saying that, and having a pop at the City, if they were confident about negotiating a deal with them.

In fairness to that analogy, Mick Channon did leave Southampton for the 2nd time in 1982 when Rishi was 1 or 2 years old (he was born in 1980). He's a few years older than I am and I don't remember that much which happened at Forest before something like the 1991 FA Cup final.

I do think he goes to watch Southampton though so it's not necessarily just saying something to be popular, which it undoubtedly is also, he is from there and it makes a nice change from the glory hunters flocking to the usual clubs.

Saying that, I do think the rest of your comment is spot on...

We will never move to Toton, the Derbyshire border runs through the Sidings site— it is inconceivable to have any part of a potential stadium, even part of a car park in Derbyshire

If Russell Martin can make his point and show his absolute disdain for Rishi Sunak - let's not forget that Southampton is the team the PM supports - then I see no reason why we shouldn't take the piss either, when some election-year, PR stunt effort in making him look appealing to the working classes seems so desperate.

I dont know if Nottingham Forest should be engaging in the local politics even if it needs to get something out of it...

As LadyP infers, there's a trio of Tory links now, two around the stadium - the letter, the Toton offer - and one, the PMs visit, probably on the back of it.

Too close for me.

Politics is very divisive at present, and seemingly to pick one side is not a good look. Imho, oc.
Partly agree, though I think it’s more a case of engaging with whoever is currently in charge rather than one party over the other.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if EM is suddenly trying to be best buddies with Starmer if and when he wins the election.

The club has to engage. That's not my issue.

But it does look like it's amenable to being too engaged just when it's politically convenient for one party who are currently using football for votes.

Slightly different though, the era of the title and EC winning sides is the absolute pinnacle of the club's history when we were the top side in Europe, and should be seen as equivalents to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, etc - Southampton didn't win anything during that time period.

Mick Channon is a God at Soton. Scored like every 50mins for them or something like that for 10 years solid, although not in their FA Cup win - he was denied by a famous Alex Stepney save. Every Soton fan should know who he is.

Mick Channon is to Saints fans what John Robertson is to Forest fans, albeit with less trophies to show for it. A good mate of mine is a Saints fan, and Channon is still lionised there.

On Sunak; I am just disappointed I didn‘t know he was visiting the WFCG the other day: had I known in advance, I would have made a trip up there and heckled the f***ing gimp.

As a dyed-in-the-wool, traditional socialist and a Forest fan, I can honestly say that I can't get too worked-up about Sunak poncing about with a whistle in his mouth on the CG pitch looking for a cheap "ooh, look at me, I'm just a casual M&S-type everyman" photo-op, as he'll become just an insignificant footnote in the history of British Prime Ministers in the not-too-distant future. I'm more pissed-off at that fuc.king self-serving Tory chancer, Ben Bradley, getting onto the hallowed turf and using NFFC entirely for his own ends.

Bradley's role in this Toton bullshit is nothing more than an election stunt in his campaign to be Mayor of the East Midlands or whatever title he's looking at to add to his growing powerbase as an MP and leader of Notts County Council.

I've said it before I don't think politics should matter in Football. There will be forest supporters who are Tories (Rushcliffe where I live has been Tory since long before I was born) there will be fans who are Labour. There will be fans that are oddities like me as an SDP member.

The fact is though Rishi Sunak is not just the Tory leader. He's the Prime Minister of the whole country (not for very long I'll admit) and as such I think it was right for the club to bring him in if he wanted to be here. Now if someone at the club wanted to protest fair enough, but protest as individuals. Our club is for everyone and should stand for everyone whether you agree or not.

The tories will never control Nottingham City Council, Ironically, the Labour Council is doing as good a job destroying Nottingham as the tories are destroying the country.
Spot on Wes. It’s divide and conquer as demonstrated on twitter and this thread 😂
If people stopped firing shots from their entrenched positions they’d understand it’s self inflicted wounds repeating itself decade after decade.

Democracy is at stake because people can’t communicate on every level including civic society. Absolutely encouraged by media and the political establishment. Exactly the same as the USA
