Is he 14 yet?

Still more pining for an old boy.

Let's look around and not go backwards again.

I never get this tho mate. If he's good, he's good.

He got 10 goals in half a season with us and helped take Sheff U to the autos last year.

That's good, and I'd personally sooner have that here than take a gamble on some unknown.

He wouldn’t have returned here unless we’d bought him, which was never going to happen.

His 3rd season in the Championship now. Struggling to break into Everton’s first team plans so may need to leave at the end of this season.

You just hope he doesn't turn into a Lansbury and waste some magnificent talent really.

Dowell doesn't come across like Lansbury. I don't think he has the personality.

He just has a very languid style.

Good player and will do well if backed.

If Carvalho's out for any extended period of time then Dowell would have made a great replacement. Real shame we aren't looking at him again.

He played for Sheffield utd last season, did he do well? His form went down as soon as Warbutons was kicked out.

Did Ok for Sheff Utd when I saw him.

He's a decent player, runs into space & keeps the ball moving forward at a decent tempo. You'd have to consider him given Carvalho & Johnson are the only bona fide attacking mids.

He would be a decent option, but as I alluded to earlier Everton won’t send a season long loanee to the same club twice. The only way he’d come back is as a permanent signing.

I doubt it's anything to do with Kieran's attitude but he just isn't good enough to make it at Everton, and probably not even at a top Championship side.

He has good technical ability on the ball, but his other attributes will inhibit him being able to demonstrate it - he's neither particularly quick or physically strong which means he is going to find it more difficult to get the better of strong opponents who play tightly to the attackers.

He's not in the same class as Mount. A big drop in quality if they sign Dowell as his replacement.

I love this myth that Dowell got Sheff U promoted. He was a bit part at most. Derby won’t be as effective next season with him in their side. I’m quite happy for them to take him.

So did Coutts :fishing:

In all serious, if Carvalho was to be out for a few months, don't see Everton doing us a favour just to cover us for a bit.

I think it's more likely we see Silva play as a 10 and shuffle things in midfield, especially seeing as we still seem to be looking for CM's.

He doesn't really seem to be progressing. You'd expect him to be getting appearances for Everton, or a loan to a PL club by now.

He'll do a couple more loans to the Championship before Everton flog him to a parachute payment club.

Agree. He’s one of those players, like McGugan, you can have 1 of those in your 11 but not 2 or 3 like we had as it won’t always work.

The trick is to get players with this sort of talent who also graft a bit more defensively like your Guardiola teams.

The difficulty is the Premier League has become much more of a physical game even in the last five years. The average height has increased, players can run at full tempo for 90 minutes and they're fine...

Dowell's technical abilities are probably of a similar level to the rest of the Everton first team squad, but you look at their other options in Richarlison, Sigurdson, Walcott - players who cover twice as much ground, who can get back and help when defending and then carry the ball forward on the counter.

I scoffed at the talk of £20m to land him when he was here, not because he's a bad footballer, but because he's unlikely to make it consistently at the top level because the game from a physical perspective has outgrown him. Fifteen or twenty years ago Dowell would have been playing in Europe.
