The Kieran Dowell appreciation thread

Perfect for a parachute club. He won’t need to be consistent but when he’s good he’ll win them games on his own. They’ll have the squad to rotate him when he’s being ineffective.

He's a really good technical player, but definitely can only play in one system, where his team keep have the ball and can afford to let him float around the final 3rd. One of those who lets the game move around him.

Someone said previously, and I think they were bang on, that he's probably come into the game 10/15yrs too late. He'd be a Prem player when the game was less fast and physical.

Can only play in one position in one formation, as the #10 in a 4-2-3-1 possession based system.

Perfect fit under Warburton but Forest don't play it under Lamouchi, so no point in us going for him now. Norwich do play it though, and they have movement out wide that will make his creativity really dangerous. Good signing for them, smart.

Think that sums him up pretty well, good player but only really fits into a specific position and set up.

(He definitely does need to bulk out)

I hear this a lot but I'm not sure why?

He's not going to be tasked with winning the ball back, aerial duals, or barging his way through defences, so what's the point of him bulking out?

It'd be far more beneficial for him to be as agile as possible (ie skinny) in order to work the space in tight areas. Agility buys him a split second of extra time, bulking out costs a split second.

It's not like Messi is known for his biceps is it?

True that he may lose agility if he was too heavy but at the moment he's a good player if he is given time and space to pass the ball to someone else in the final third.

A lot of smaller players are actually quite stocky - Reid was a prime example, but then he was perhaps a bit too much, Osborn is probably a better one, if they're not particularly large the extra few kg and core strength makes them harder to knock off the ball when they have it. Silva is short but he's relatively stocky too. Kieran isn't actually that short height-wise, he's probably about 5'10, so would have a higher centre of mass than a player the same weight but a few inches shorter. I think when they were both here Osborn was measuring a good 5-6 cm smaller than Dowell and also about 10kg heavier yet this didn't compromise his ability on the ball or movement around the pitch.

You can really see how not-muscular he is - in fact, it's perhaps surprising he's made it as far as he has, which is probably more down to his actual talent and that he has potential to fill out a bit.

Your direct comparison - Dowell is 178cm and 70 kg, Messi 170 and 72...

Been signed by Norwich judging by an article on a subscription sports website.
I expect he'll score against Forest this season...
