The Joe Lolley Retirement

Re: Joe Lolley deserves a good ball-cupping

Yeh, loyalty's a two way thing. Lolley signed last Jan for a relatively small fee, having struggled for regular minutes at Huddersfield. His contract would have reflected that. A year later, he's one of the best in his position in the league and is apparently attracting interest at £10m+. It's only fair that he gets a contract that reflects his increased standing.

But he was under contract for another 3 and a half years anyway, he had zero leverage. If he thought the contract he signed last year didn't represent good value, why sign it?

How good was he ? Every player deserves praise but damn we found that mix of pressing and relieving pressure through his direct running by getting the ball as quickly as possible to him. Reminds me of someone else in that regard and I bet MON has the same thinking.

Even Milosevic tweeted him saying : https://twitter.com/MilosevicAlex/status/1100315395125362688

Every single time he got it, he was a threat. He's simple yet clever with the ball. Small body movements or shifts the ball inside and out and he's away.

He's not lightning fast, but he just glides with it. Deserved a goal really.

Management 101: don’t leave Lolley 1 v 1 with your defender, however many international caps he has had.

How much did we pay for him again?

Don't think there's ever been a player with such good close control to play in the championship. Special talent with his head screwed on.

Rare breed in today's football.

Thought Lolley was our main attacking threat last night, looked the most willing runner for Murphy. Then theres the solo stuff where he puts his head down & goes.

Had three shaggers in attendance every time he got the ball & still made alot happen.

Pace, power, direct running, trickery.

He is an absolute nightmare to play against.

He turned Ashley Cole inside out so many times, that the Left Back will still be dizzy this morning.

Add the last of the McKay money to the last of the Gunter money and it's going to be a good summer

It's like some endless fountain of cash.

There were plenty of occasions where they doubled up on him and he just beat the extra man as well anyway.

Probably a bit difficult to do those twisting, sliding tackles with a Nokia 2110 stuck in your anus?

At least Lampard would be able to talk out of Ashley's arse instead of his own

Unplayable last night. Cole will be having nightmares about Joe for weeks. It's a nice contrast to have in the side when Lolley and Colback are in the there together. Both take possession seriously and don't dally on the ball, Lolley by taking the ball where the opposition least want it and Colback by making every pass count and always picking out a red shirt.

Props to MON getting Lolley unplayable again. Just need another Lolley on the opposite flank in the summer.

If we'd had landed one in Jan I think we'd be 4pts better off now, and sat top 6.

Club really need to grasp this opportunity with both hands in the summer.

Re: Joe Lolley deserves a good ball-cupping

I don't think it even has to be another Lolley. Just someone with a bit of pace and power who likes to attack the opposition final 3rd.

Obviously an Ollie Burke type would be the ideal. But as much as people don't like him, a James McClean type in playing style would work. Direct, puts it in the box, powerful and puts a shift in too.

It's hard to just pick up another Lolley. Usually you get someone who has the talent he does, but not the work ethic, or has the work ethic but not the same level of talent.

So key for me is: work ethic, pace and power.
