The Joe Lolley Retirement

Re: Joe Lolley deserves a good ball-cupping

He hasn't put in a decent performance since the end of November.
It does seem to coincide with the surfacing of AK's problems.
It is hard to think we were concerned he might be snapped up by a Prem club during the current window.
And before anyone reminds me "form is temporary; class is permanent", I am aware of that.

He also hasn’t put in a decent performance since all the transfer speculation.

This article sounds like it was written by someone who is bitter about AK's departure.

I find that article really odd. With not one single fact or sensible theory to back up the idea that Joe Lolley is not now going to give of his best because AK has gone and will seek a transfer without waiting to see what MON has to offer. Plus the team is going to fall apart because Joe Lolley will not be happy.

I agree, the plot line centres around the theory MON is more defensive than AK. Firstly that aint true & secondly Lolleys form went off a cliff a month ago.

Sadly none of us will get back the five mins it took to read it.

Have we decided that Joe Lolley is this seasons Barrie McKay?.

To be fair, there are comparisons. Last year both McKay and Murphy's form plummeted, possibly resulting in Warburton losing his job.
They're on a much higher level but it's difficult to argue against Lolley and Grabban's form causing similar problems for Karanka.
It's probably symptomatic of us relying on just a few players to shoulder the performances rather than having quality across every area of the pitch.

Lolley's form hasn't "plummeted" or "fallen off a cliff" as people are suggesting.

He was one of the best wingers in the League up until Karanka's first grumpiness, since then he's been OK, but not shit. Not like Darikwa.

You're right. But he hasn't quite been influencing games like he was previously. And no one else has stepped up to take over.

Oh no I agree

He was bossing it, running at defences. Since about the start of December he's lost that somewhat.

AK gave Lolley a bit of shit in his comments after a game, think it was Derby or Ipswich. He then hooked him at ht in the next game.

Think he either kjocked his confidence or pissed him off. I expect him to be flying tomorrow.

For me the over reliance of certain players has been an issue for years. It’s not been every season though as we haven’t had a player that has stood out in a team of poor to mediocrity on a few occasions.
For me I tend not to have a dig at the ones who are going through a poor run of form after contributing positively previously to that (a bit like they have put something in a pot). Stan Collymore took stick from some back in the day. Accused by some as a poor trainer, loner and isolated from the rest of the group. Yet on match day without him we wouldn’t had got promoted. Simple as that.
I’m more critical of the ones who have never put anything meaningful in the imaginary pot. With that in mind I’ve been spoilt for choice over the last few years,

Considering we've got Colback, Lolley, Carvalho and Grabban I guess emmerson was right all along

When I said fallen off a cliff, ofcourse thats relative to the mint form he was in previously. Far from suggesting he aint contributing anything, he's just been a lot less effective.

Villa came in for him last week and we wanted £12m. Apparently they want him to replace Grealish when he goes in the summer

Lolly for Lolley.

I'd have bit their arm off.

Think of all those ineffectual players we could have spent £12m on.

Villa can 'f*** off'!!

And the managerial + staff payouts. We could be sitting pretty sat on a squad full of injured Algerians with Warbs, AK & MON all sat smoking Cubans on the same wage bill.

I've figured it out, they're trying to reinvigorate the Greek tourist industry!
