Aren't the players, particularly of Messi's calibre, being paid sums like £200 million to go to Saudi?

Hardly likely to earn that at Inter Miami. So perhaps he wants to go to the States for a year or so on holiday (lots of Cubans and Spanish speakers in Miami) and then pop over to Saudi to collect his pension.
On top of his salary, he's getting profit sharing from the MLS, Apple (they host the TV rights) & Adidas. He will be making huge amounts especially if it's a successful spell, and he will probably get his own MLS Franchise when he retires which is what Beckham did, and they are worth about £300m.

The suggestion is, VP, that if Messi turns up in the MLS and strolls about for a couple of seasons, he will then be eligible - as David Beckham was - to purchase a new MLS franchise at a significant discount; that is an almost-quadruple-your-money offer, before a ball is even kicked, and could end up being worth serious cash - in excess of $600m is, I believe, the current mooted figure in terms of the value of a franchise.

That sort of long-term investment opportunity could frankly dwarf even the massive short-term gain of wages in the Saudi league.

SNAP!

But, the value of an MLS franchise is nowadays quite a bit more than $300m, especially with the investment from Apple, with the new streaming contract.

River Plate are champions of Argentina for a record 38th time. 'Los Millonarios' clinched the Liga Profesional with 2 matches remaining after beating Estudiantes 3-1. There were doubts about first year manager Martin Demichelis since this was his first managerial appointment in senior football and he was taking over for legend Marcelo Gallardo but he won the title at the first time of asking.

The fact I remember watching Martin Demichelis play, makes me feel old.

Fernando Diniz is the coach of the Brazilian national team and Fluminense.

He is an innovative coach and very original in his tactics.

Anyone who wants to know more of his innovations.

Just checked in on DC United …….

Rooney has em on the crest of a slump, 1 win in last 10, beat 3-0 by Chicago 🤨

Very polite lot at DC, they asked me a question so I answered 😬

In the second Copa Libertadores semi it was Boca Juniors going to Palmeiras and getting a 1-1 draw and going through 4-2 on penalties.
Boca will play in the final 4 Nov at the Maracana in Rio in what is a de facto home game for Fluminense.
