Summer 2023 Transfer Window

Grass

This transfer window feels like a Mark Arthur window

Last year was an excelerated version of a Fawaz window
Say what you will about him and all the negativity is deserved but he got a decent amount of players in for us

Can we get a happy medium please

I'll be honest, the more into the window we get, the more I'm convinced we shit the bed financially last season, to the point where we can't barely spend much this summer. Hence why the respectable journalists don't have much on us, we're fannying about with Henderson and Willian was the only concrete one really and he would have been a free transfer.

I'm all for being a good boy and abiding by FFP Forest but they do know we're starting the season in a month right?

Stevie seemed very content & calm with regards to recruitment plans & strategy.

I don't think that would be the case if we were skint & not planning to reinforce to his liking.

He's an ambitious bloke- see his Swansea exit.

We are in a considerabley weaker position at the moment than last years squad. We dont want to be scratching around still before the season kicks off cause our start is horrendous.

Other teams have strengthened and we have lost our star keeper and left back and signed no one. If Niakhate is injured than we are in a right pickle at the moment. Of course there is time still but we really need to get a move on if we want to give ourselves the best possible oppurtunity to get points straight away.

A goalkeeper is urgent, and left back slightly less so but is still a high priority.

Get those in and I'll be relaxed for the rest of the window while we try and bring quality like Sangare while trimming the rest of the squad down.

A concern is our lack of ability to shift deadwood. Harbottle and Swan have left, and Surridge appears to be close but not confirmed. Other than that, I don't think we've sold or even loaned anyone out, unless they were out of contract.

Hwang, Drager, and Bowler must be up for sale, but have gone to Spain due to lack of incomings/injuries.

Given they aren't in Spain, you'd presume Fornah, Panzo, Cook, LoB, Soh and maybe Dennis (depending if he has the same issue as Taiwo) have been told they are definitely leaving, but I haven't seen any strong rumours linking any of them to new clubs.

I'm still not too downbeat about the lack of signings. We need them, but I'd sooner we got the right people in at the right price.

That said, we do need to start getting a move on now. Last year we really suffered season start from having too many players to bed in. Bringing players in at the last minute is gonna create a similar issue for Coops, and so the sooner the better now.

This was someone I though Ross might consider. Shirley it must have crossed his mind.

Fulham make Bassey bid

Fulham have made £15m bid for Ajax defenderCalvin Bassey.

The Cottagers are awaiting a response from the Eredivisie side, where he has four years remaining on his contract.

Ajax signed Bassey from Rangers last July for an initial fee of £19.6m (£22.7m including add-ons).

Rangers would also receive a 10-per-cent sell-on fee should Bassey move – that clause was inserted into the deal with Ajax last summer.

I don’t think the Niakhate injury should send the recruitment into a tailspin at all. We still have Felipe, Boly, Worrall, McKenna, possibly even Biancone.

Obviously if we can upgrade any of that pool at the right price we should look to do so, but there’s only so many you can fit in the squad (ask Steve Cook). Its never not going to be the case that losing one of your best defenders to injury won’t weaken the team, and you can’t just keep signing more players forever without moving others on.

Hopefully he won’t be out too long anyway.

I thought he looked good at Rangers from what I saw during their European run, no idea how he got on at Ajax though.

Got a bit of a slating at Ajax. No idea if that’s was justified or not.
Maybe he didn’t adapt to living in the Netherlands.

I don’t think Fulham would be a good move for him, his brother is a semi well known rapper who spends more time in jail than out so I would want to avoid the London area if I was him to focus on football.

For every day that goes by without a signing, the probability that the next day will bring one goes up.

Just hope they are with thought and logic and not panic buys.

Its the opposite actually.

Lets say the probability of us signing a player on any given day is 50%.

The probability of us signing a player tomorrow is 50%. The probability of us signing a player on Friday is 50% multiplied by 50% which is 25%.

The probability of us signing a player on Sat is 50% times 50% times 50%, which is 12.5%. It keeps getting lower from there on.

The longer we go without signing a player the lower the probability is that we will sign one.

I knew maths would come in useful one day.
