davidornstein 🚨 Nottingham Forest working to sign 2 new wing-backs — Liverpool’s Neco Williams for right + Omar Richards of Bayern Munich for left. Talks are over permanent transfers & it’s possible deals will be in place by this weekend
Regarding Williams-he hasn't got a cat in hells chance of a meaningful career at Liverpool. Hes not good enough. I really don't understand why they are going through this charade of over-valuing him-either there are other clubs willing to pay said costs or its just us looking at him in which case reach a compromise for his sake...

I’d take a look at Maxwell Cornet from Burnley.

I still think we’re short on the left and this guy has played predominantly LW, but also across the front three. Awoniyi, Johnson and Cornet interchanging is a frightening prospect. Release clause of £17.5m apparently.
I think the relegated sides have a few worth looking at, Cornet and Taylor at Burnley. Dennis at Watford and Pukki at Norwich would all provide good options I think.

I've wondered about Pukki as an option. He knows the division and he knows where the back of the net is. It's one of those similar to Brennan where he's probably worth more to Norwich than he is to another team and they'll stick a premium price on him.

Don't think he fits our policy. Not just how old he is but we want our players to be capable of both defending and attacking, and also requiring them to have some sort of physical attributes that stand out, whether it's pace, strength or height.

No thanks, not impressed when Naaridge have been up there. I don't see him as Steve Cooper type, might be wrong though.

So taking stock I think we’ve made a great start.
Was a big challenge, lot of gaps to fill, big jump up to address. I like the look of all the incoming players. Remains to be seen how they perform.
Focus is now fully on the 2 wing backs, centre mid and attacking mid now. Not easy, but at least the task has narrowed down a hell of a lot.
I’d be happy with Richards & Williams if they can get those two done by the weekend. Then its all in for some top quality CM & AM’s. Go for it Forest.

A good analysis,Steve.
I also think we need another striker(possibly Davis?) and some decent squad fillers to give us some depth.

Not to be pedantic, but we don't play with a front three. We play with a front two who do take up wide positions though. I don't think Cornet fits the role of either the '10' position, or the left hand side of the two strikers. He did play left back and left wing in France (I believe) so he may be able to slide in at LWB.

I wonder though if it's due to what's been available to Cooper and if he had the wide players he'd play them.

He didn't seem to trust Lolley week in week out so beyond him you're looking at Mighten and Johnson out wide which in AM's case wasn't going to happen.

Cooper strikes me as a manager who will change the system based on who he has to work with unlike some that are just rigid with no plan B. He obviously saw that we were well stocked at CB but only had one winger you'd trust so went with the 3-4-1-2. I have no idea what system he had at Swansea to say whether that is his usual formation or not.

He did have Zinckernagel though - and chose to play him centrally, even though he had been more of a wide-man for most of his career.

Our striker basically played left wing when we had the ball and Brennan went upfront.

I think we could see a tweak if we get in a top LWB though.

One interesting aspect of your promotion is that I feel all of a sudden much less knowledgeable regarding transfer business. You've already spent more than 60m and the promised transfer budget of 75-100m now appears to be a reality rather than an empty promise (considering you still need to first rate midfielders and another forward). What the hell does 100m mean? I mean, I cannot even conceptualize such sums. You've moved beyond my ability to understand football money. o_O

Who is our other loanee going to be, I'm wondering. The best development set-up going has space for only one more ambitious & talented youngster who wants to accelerate their progress. Which lucky club will be fortunate enough to get their best young prospect into Steve Cooper's squad?

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!
I know we all adored the squad that gained promotion is such a dramatic and entertaining fashion, and we will miss seeing Spence flying down the right, and Garner buzzing around all of midfield, and the antics of Samba, Forest's own take on Grobbelar (without the bribery and corruption).
But I know that come the first home game, the City Ground will be rammed to capacity, will be rocking, and welcoming the new team, old boys and new boys, with the same fervour that we gave the team of 21-22.
I don't know you, but I just can't get enough!
Come on you Reds.

Hard to make a comparison. We have never had that much money in our hands or the need for such a drastic rehaul. However, if there is one that can answer this question then this is either GBG or transfermarkt records per season

As karteo said, there's no comparison. There have been some 8-figure transfers (Zahovic and Giovanni), but they were in a different era, long before the financial crisis, and they were done with mostly borrowed (or worse, we had a real crook as owner at the time) money. In the EM era, the most expensive transfer was probably Podence (ca. 7m, and he was a steal).

Honestly if you could dream up a bunch of transfers that are realistic at the start of the summer I reckon all the ones we have signed or targeted pretty much all would be top of the list.

The club's recruitment setup is a dream at the minute.
Our business so far has exceeded my expectations significantly. If the replacements for Garner and Zinckernagel are of the same calibre as the signings we've made so far we will have done brilliantly.
