Interesting.

So it was unlimited from overseas last season and this season its 8 at the same time (which means 6 if you already have two domestics).

Two (4) domestic loans with only one from the same club, plus eight international with a maximum of three from any one club.

PL website & FIFA's. I've already posted the information twice on here.
I think it was the FIFA bit which was confusing people as the PL bit seems widely known now, even the weird sub clauses. I would have expected the PL handbook to at least make reference to FIFA regs unless there’s separate FA regs that reference FIFA regs. Anyway, matters not unless we sign someone!

Does that filter for HITC still exist?

EDIT: clearly not. Pull your fingers out admins.

Record in Portugal linking us with Chancel Mbemba the Congolese CB once of Newcastle and now leaving Porto on a free. Only issue is they quote a very unreputable British outlet as a source (whose name I don't think I can write because the filter always picks it up) so probably not worth making a thread for him just yet:

he’d be absolutely quality on a free

We repealed it for now, to allow quotes from The Hitchhikers‘ Guide to the Galaxy.

Yeah that's always hovered over him, Newcastle supposedly tested him thoroughly and found he was born in '94 though, who knows just seems to be one of those things some African footballers have to deal with, I always remember Yakubu having the same accusations a few years ago and Obafemi Martins too. For what it's worth other outlets in Portugal are saying Porto are trying to get him to sign a new contract.

I think it was quite a lot of African players really - they said Kanu was older than he was quoted at some point too I think.

A lot of it was fed by a suspicion I think mainly based on that African sides usually did well at age group level comparative to other regions but less so in senior level and a lot of the players ended up retiring or waning comparatively earlier. But then, considering you could have said the same about Michael Owen, who I think made the Liverpool first team at 16, was scoring in world cups at 18, and then ended up retiring earlier due to injuries, and also Wayne Rooney who was scoring for Everton at a similar age, but there was no suspicion either of those had lied about it.

Presumably there is some sort of DNA test they can do to estimate a person's age? I do know cells effectively have some sort of counter when they replicate but not sure exactly how easy that would be to measure.

Think James Bree's contract with Luton ends today. He's another one (like Toffolo) I'd be happy with - decent age, reasonable return going forward last year and solid defensively. He can fight it out with one of the bigger names (Spence/Williams) at RWB for me.

I can't remember the article but I remember reading from a guy who was a scout/director of football type talking about players from Senegal. He insinuated some Senegalese players were 5 years younger than they were because they physically they weren't a match for the European counterparts at the same age. So they fiddled their birth certificates to say they were 18 when in fact they were 23. Pretty sure it was Mane they were alluding to being older than he actually is, but they never said it outright.

Alf Ramsay committed age-fraud. Knocked 2 years of his age after WW2. Allegedly, he felt that as 31 year he was less likely to get a professional contract than a 29 year old, hence the deception.

In Africa, it happens more in places where the scouting infrastructure is under developed and academy system is non existence.

The general view is that European scouts only really watch u18 and lower age tournaments. So if you're 23 but belive you have what it takes, you have more chances of being seen if you're playing with a lower age group, and also, physically, you will stand out more.

Other motivations are a cause too. In Africa, Asia and Oceana confederations, some nations were putting older ringers in squads for international youth games.

In Asia, they're now combating that with age tests using MRI.

Celestine Babayaro broke all sorts of records as a kid. I think he played Champions League football at “15”.

Was washed up and retired by the age of “30”
